‘Rotten’ Smell Led to Grisly Discovery Inside Florida Storage Unit (video)

A grim discovery at a Florida storage unit has led to the arrest of a man accused of murdering his wife and disposing of her body inside the facility. Shakira Rucker, a 37-year-old mother of four, was reported missing by her family on November 11, 2023. As the search intensified, a disturbing odor emanating from a storage unit prompted witnesses to alert authorities, leading to the tragic revelation of her fate.

Corey Hill, Rucker’s husband, has been charged with first-degree murder and several other offenses following the discovery of her body. Authorities believe Hill shot Rucker inside a storage unit he rented in Apopka, Florida, and left her there to decompose. He is currently facing nine charges, including attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, with the state seeking the death penalty.

The investigation began when family members reported Rucker missing after not hearing from her since November 11. Surveillance footage indicated that she was last seen with Hill at a restaurant that night. The following day, the couple was seen entering the storage facility, but Rucker never exited. Witnesses reported that Hill left the premises alone shortly after.

On November 18, nearly a week after Rucker was last seen, employees at the storage facility were alerted by a foul smell and liquid leaking from the unit. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the body of Rucker, whose remains showed signs of decomposition. Court documents revealed that Hill attempted to conceal her body by placing tires in front of it.

Further investigations uncovered Hill’s violent history, including a previous conviction for second-degree murder in the 1990s. After Rucker’s death, he allegedly attempted to murder another woman, Angel Milligan, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship. Milligan had a restraining order against Hill, and he reportedly confronted her at her home with a firearm, firing several shots but causing no injuries.

Following his arrest, Hill has remained in custody without bail as the case progresses. A defense motion to suppress evidence from the storage unit was denied by the court, which ruled that law enforcement acted appropriately in entering the unit without a warrant due to exigent circumstances.

Shakira Rucker’s family has expressed their grief, describing her as a devoted mother and a cherished member of the community. They have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support her four children, who are now left without their mother. The family has shared their emotional struggle, emphasizing the profound impact of this tragedy on their lives.

As the legal proceedings continue, Hill is scheduled to face trial in the coming years, with monthly court updates expected. The case has drawn significant attention due to its horrific nature and the profound loss experienced by Rucker’s family.
