(PLO)- Messi negotiated a blockbuster reunion with Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League.
Lionel Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is up at the end of the year and it looks like a surprise move could be on the cards for the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star. Messi is in talks to create a blockbuster reunion with Ronaldo.
Specifically, the Mirror (UK) reported that Lionel Messi is in talks with Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli team about a sensational move to the Middle East later this year. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star will see his current contract with Inter Miami expire in December.
And now, Messi has shown no signs of renewing his contract with Inter Miami. That opens up the possibility of Messi leaving MLS in 2026, with a number of clubs interested. Former club Barcelona have long been linked with Messi, with president Joan Laporta making his desire to bring the Argentine back to the Nou Camp clear. But it seems a move to Saudi Arabia could also be an option for Messi.
According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli are interested in signing Messi and have reportedly been working for “weeks” to convince the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner to move to the Middle East. However, Inter Miami remain hopeful of keeping Messi, with Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas recently revealing his desire to extend the 2022 World Cup winner’s contract until at least next season.

Speaking to ESPN, Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas said: “I have said before that my wish, my dream, is that number 10 Lionel Messi will inaugurate our new stadium in March. This is a decision that depends on Messi.
We want Lionel Messi to finish his career here. I said a few months ago that we would have information about Messi’s contract extension in the summer, but hopefully as soon as possible. But I am optimistic because we have done everything possible to make Leo feel at home, to feel comfortable.
I have always said that Lionel Messi is a competitive beast, he wants to win. I hope we can win many titles together at Inter Miami in the coming years. Here, we are just waiting to bring the fans good news about Lionel Messi.”
Jorge Mas added: “We are a bit selfish, we want to see more titles and obviously Lionel Messi is here. I will not speak for Messi, but I speak for me and Inter Miami. From day one, Lionel Messi said he wants to compete and win. He is a competitive person.
Obviously we want to make sure that Inter Miami has the best squad to compete at the highest level. We have to ask Leo, but I think he knows that we are doing everything we can. MLS gives us everything to use to improve this squad: signing young players, looking for other bright spots.
For next year, we will find another star player, we always have room for them in the squad. We are not lacking much. We do not need to rush, we do not need to do it today or tomorrow, but we will know Messi’s decision soon and hopefully we will be together for many more years.”
The move to Saudi Arabia will see Messi reunite with long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al Nassr . The Portuguese forward’s future has been up in the air, but Ronaldo has just signed a lucrative new contract until 2027 with Al Nassr.
