On October 15, 2025, Swave Drilly walked into a parole meeting in the South Bronx around 5:00 p. m. He’d been on parole since coming home in 2024 and probably figured the government building was the last place he’d have to worry about his ops catching him slipping. He was wrong.
Before he stepped back outside, a woman on the street spotted three men in ski masks approaching the building and called the cops. But the police didn’t get there fast enough. The moment Swave walked out, the masked men ran him down and opened fire. He was left bleeding out on the pavement in front of the parole office.
His own parole officer made the frantic call for help, screaming for an ambulance. The cops arrived and tried everything they could, but Swave was pronounced dead at the hospital. Swave Drilly had enemies all over the Bronx. Even before his body went cold, other rappers started clowning him.
C Blu was among the first, and Lil Tjay, one of the biggest artists to come out of the Bronx, was dissing him too. The news hit the Drillys hard. Swave had been part of the crew since the very beginning. He grew up with Spazz Drilly, the man who started it all.
After a homie named Dummy Out was stabbed to death at a barbecue back in 2018, Spazz broke away from the G-Side set and built the Drillys from the ground up. Swave was right there from day one, putting in work on the streets while Spazz was making noise with the drill music. Swave never wanted to rap. It happened by accident.
One day he was in the studio with Spazz, just hanging out, and Spazz handed him the mic and told him to hop on the beat. Swave pulled up his notes app, wrote a verse on the spot, and that’s how Opp Spotter was born. The track with Spazz and Good Day Ray blew up and helped kick off the whole Bronx drill wave. But Swave wasn’t just making music.
He was using the songs to send shots at the ops. On Opp Spotter, he called out Kay Flock and claimed he’d caught the man lacking in his own hood and stomped him out back in the day. He told the story in an interview after he came home. Said he was out near Stebside one morning, dropped somebody off, and decided to slide through the hood.
He walked around for a while, didn’t see anybody, and then spotted Kay Flock walking down the street with a girl. They locked eyes, and Swave said he beat the man down right there in the building. He tried to get security footage to post online, but he could never get his hands on it. That wasn’t the only famous rapper Swave put hands on.
Before Lil Tjay made it big, Swave and his homies caught him lacking and stomped him out and snatched his chain. Swave even rapped about it later: “Tjay got robbed, Loose got robbed. I can’t be stopped, Ali. ”
Swave’s reputation was built on violence.
He’d been in and out of jail for years before dropping any music. In 2018 he caught a gun charge. In 2019 he was booked for attempted murder and put down 50K to bond out. Two months later, he got into a fight at the courthouse and was locked up again.
Then came a reckless endangerment arrest. He kept catching cases and kept going back inside. In 2020, just a few months after Opp Spotter dropped, Swave was locked up again. He was already fighting six cases at once.
And things only got worse for the whole crew. The NYPD launched a massive investigation called Operation Drilly and indicted twenty members of the gang, claiming they were one of the most violent crews in the Bronx. According to the indictment, the Drillys were involved in more than thirty violent acts in just a couple of years. They nearly stabbed a man to death as he walked home from school in 2019.
They were also charged in the murder of a woman named Delilah Vasquez, who was found in an abandoned building in 2021 with a gunshot wound to the head. Delilah became one of the most disrespected people on the streets. The Drillys’ enemies used her name in diss tracks, calling her out by name. C Blu even rapped about her and Dummy Out.
But Swave fired back on his own track, defending her and promising retaliation: “RIP Layla, that shit had me sick. That shit be wrong when they talk about sis, so we spinning. ”
Swave was locked up during most of the violence, facing 15 years in prison. The state offered him a plea deal for 10 years.
He turned it down. They came back with 8. He turned that down too. He was ready to go to trial, but in 2023, the state offered him 4 years, and Swave jumped on it.
Because he’d already been inside for years, the deal meant he only had to serve one more year. The first few years had been easy because he was locked up with a lot of his homies. But then he took the plea and got transferred to a prison upstate. That’s where things almost got him killed.
He came across some dudes he thought he was cool with, but they tried to backdoor him. Swave was lying in his cell one day when a blade came over the top of the cube and sliced his face. He touched his face, felt the blood, and just started swinging. He survived, but he carried the scars.
Swave came home in 2024. The first thing on his mind was his daughter. All through those four years inside, he’d only seen her once. He told an interviewer that when he finally got released and saw her again, it was only the second time he’d really seen her in years.
But prison didn’t change the way he moved. As soon as he got back to the Bronx, he fell right into the trenches. The drill scene was mostly dead by then, but Swave still hopped in the booth and kept dissing the ops. On Back on My Bully, he made it clear he wasn’t slowing down: “Don’t fuck with no flock cuz you know I’m big drilly.
Empty the clip if I spot me a rippy. I just came home and I spent me a 50. Nigga is a label, I got my own milli. ”
There was one way he’d changed, though.
Swave had a daughter to look out for now. He was in his late 20s, and he really might have gotten out of the streets if he’d played it smart. But he couldn’t let any disrespect go. One time he was walking through a park and heard somebody playing an ops song, so he put hands on the dude on the spot and called him out on IG, laughing about how the man was holding onto his bike for dear life.
That happened in the same park where he’d put hands on Lil Tjay back in the day. He was always crashing out. There were claims he ran over one of his ops and posted it online. Not long before he died, he knocked someone out in the street and shared the security footage.
He even kicked a man from his own block down the street and spat on him just for giving ops a pass. That kind of life catches up to a man eventually. On that October evening, outside the parole office, it caught up to Swave Drilly. Nobody knows for sure who pulled the trigger.
Some rumors say he was backdoored by his own people. The Drillys who are locked up right now are pushing for revenge, ordering the shooters still on the street to slide for Swave. But a lot of the crew’s main faces are behind bars. Spazz Drilly was arrested back in 2020, right after Opp Spotter dropped.
In July of that year, he killed a man named James Rivera and caught a 15-year sentence. Lee Drilly stepped up next, but he got hit with six years during the Operation Drilly sweep. Now Swave is gone too. He never made real money off the music.
He missed the drill wave and went back to the streets, and that’s exactly where it caught up with him.
