I was scrubbing the blood off my hands when I called you. I’d already gone over the whole night a hundred times, rubbing the varnish off the table while I waited. But you needed to hear it from me. You needed to know everything.

It started with Theo. He was in a state that night, worse than I’d ever seen him. Then everything went wrong. I was running for my life, and Theo was gone.
The police came around asking questions, and I told them what I could. But there was one thing I didn’t tell them. I sent you a text message that night. You replied, and I thought it was you waiting in the house.
When I came back, it was dark, and I’d had a drink, and I got into bed and started kissing her. Only it wasn’t her. It was Christina. I didn’t realize until it was too late.
And then she told me she was leaving. She said she couldn’t stay. I thought I’d scared her off. But then you told me the truth.
You said the police found blood on my shirt. Not from anywhere else. And then you asked me if I’d gone anywhere when I went to get Todd. I hadn’t.
I’d just gone to his flat, found him in the bathroom, bleeding. After the fight with Theo. You told me to convince Ben that Will should come stay with me. You said you wouldn’t tell anyone about what you knew.
And I said I’d do it, because I care about Will. Because he’s not being looked after here. But then you asked me if anything else happened. And I remembered.
When I got Todd into the bathroom, I held the door. Me and Todd, we tied the handle so he couldn’t get out. And then I saw Kit. DC Greeny came in later.
I watched Todd get into his taxi and drove away. I waved him off. But I didn’t tell you the truth. I didn’t tell you that I knew something.
There’s only one person who knows who killed Theo. And it’s not me.
