A federal special agent and his wife are dead in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide at their New Jersey home, leaving neighbors and loved ones in shock.
Kelly Iatauro, 46, was found shot inside the couple’s Sayreville residence Friday night, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Her husband, Christopher Iatauro, 52, was discovered in the backyard with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators are treating the case as a murder-suicide, with Christopher believed to be the shooter, officials said in a statement. The motive behind the tragedy remains unclear.
Christopher Iatauro reportedly worked as a special agent for the Department of Homeland Security, according to records from 2019 and 2020 obtained by local outlet NJ101.5.
Police responded to the home on Glynn Court around 8 p.m. Friday, asking residents to stay inside as they secured the scene. The street was closed for at least 40 minutes.
In a heartbreaking Facebook post, Kelly’s sister-in-law announced funeral services and paid tribute to the woman she called a “bright light.”
“As many of you may now know, my beautiful sister-in-law, Kelly Iatauro was senselessly and suddenly taken from us on Friday,” she wrote. “Kelly was a bright light- kind, thoughtful, hysterical, inappropriate, and just one of the most amazing people I’ve ever known.”

The Department of Homeland Security has not yet responded to requests for comment.
What could have led to such a devastating end for a couple in their own home?
