Iconic Hot Dog on a Stick plots Vegas expansion as new owner plans major investment

It’s the California classic you grew up with in the mall, and now Hot Dog on a Stick is plotting a massive comeback that could land its famous corn dogs and lemonade right on the Las Vegas Strip.

The 80-year-old chain, known for its hand-stomped lemonade and employees in red, white, and blue striped uniforms, has been bought by Las Vegas-based Amazing Brands for $8 million. The new owner says it’s time to bring this West Coast cult favorite to the rest of America and beyond.

Company founder Stephen Siegel told QSR magazine that Hot Dog on a Stick has been a West Coast success story for too long. He believes the brand is ready for a national—and eventually global—audience. The deal feels personal for Siegel, who shared that his wife managed one of the chain’s locations in the 1990s at the Montebello Town Center in Los Angeles County.

Plans reportedly include a flagship location on the Las Vegas Strip, plus drive-thrus, spots in amusement parks, stadiums, and entertainment districts. The company also wants to sell packaged signature items in grocery stores.

The first Hot Dog on a Stick stand opened on the Santa Monica Pier in 1946, originally called Party Puffs. Founder Dave Barham perfected the hot dog on a stick, renamed the business, and the rest is history. At its peak, the chain had more than 100 locations, mostly in shopping malls.

But as indoor malls lost their popularity, so did the chain. Only 44 locations remain today. Amazing Brands insists it won’t reinvent the brand, just revive the nostalgia and fun for a new generation.
