This series of attacks, which began late Saturday, comes in the wake of a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two American servicemembers in Jordan.
The latest strikes aimed at critical Iranian military infrastructure, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance facilities, and storage sites for missiles and drones. U. S.
Central Command confirmed the operations on social media platform X, highlighting the ongoing efforts to weaken Iran’s military capabilities.
Fighter jets and missiles were deployed from aircraft carriers and destroyers, resulting in significant explosions in the mountainous regions of Iran, as captured in footage released by military officials. The attacks commenced around 6 p. m.
and continued until approximately 11:30 p. m. Saturday night.
According to CENTCOM, these operations were a direct response to the recent attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which led to the fatalities of U. S. personnel at the Muwawffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, with another servicemember reported missing in action.
Four additional service members were medically evacuated but have since been released from Jordanian hospitals.
President Trump expressed his condolences regarding the deaths, calling the situation “a shame” while emphasizing the importance of the mission. In a conversation with The Post, he stated, “They did it because they don’t want to see Iran have a nuclear weapon… And it just shows you how bad [the Iranians] are.”
This wave of strikes marks a significant turning point, as the fatalities are the first U. S. losses since the president declared the cease-fire with Iran “over” just last week.
This declaration followed Iran’s alleged targeting of three ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a move that was supposed to be avoided under a U. S. -Iran memorandum aimed at maintaining peace.
