An ‘evil’ predator who murdered two women and nearly killed a third amid a wider years-long spree of sex attacks faces dying behind bars.
Simon Levy, 40, killed Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, in March 2025, and Sheryl Wilkins, 39, in August that year.
He smothered both women in sexually motivated attacks, with Ms Valencia-Trujillo found in a largely abandoned block of flats on the Aylesbury estate in south-east London, and Ms Wilkins behind a car park wall near Tottenham High Road, north London.
Levy raped a third woman whose collarbone was broken during a brutal sex assault in January 2025, leaving her for dead in the same car park where Ms Wilkins’ body was later found.
Members of the victims’ families burst into tears as the verdict was delivered after the jury deliberated for 13 hours.
Levy, sporting a pointed beard and sunglasses, gave no reaction in court as he was convicted of all the charges against him.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC adjourned sentencing until Wednesday August 12 and remanded Levy into custody.
It can now be reported that a string of police and court blunders left Levy free to keep attacking women.
Levy was previously jailed in 2021 for groping two women in the summer of 2018, one at Notting Hill Carnival and the other at a party in Camden.
He sexually assaulted a prison guard while behind bars in 2022 but was still released the following year, going on to sexually assault a woman on the Tube in October 2023 and allegedly rape another in May 2024, for which he was recalled to prison and released again in August that year.
Levy was arrested by BTP in November 2024 for four sexual assaults on the Tube, for which he has since been separately convicted, but delays in organising an identification parade until the following April left him free to carry out the rape and first murder.
When they took details of his Oyster card, BTP officers did not realise that it had been stolen from a bus driver, meaning Levy had a free travel pass that he used on the day he murdered Ms Valencia-Trujillo.
Following her death, he was released on bail at two magistrates’ court hearings in May and June 2025, with the CPS admitting that it had not opposed bail at the first hearing, and the prosecutor had not given the court all the relevant information for consideration at the second hearing.
There were another three crown court hearings that he failed to attend for various reasons, yet no arrest warrant was requested.
Less than two weeks after a hearing on August 11, he murdered Ms Wilkins.
Levy carried out six sexual assaults on the Tube and Overground in between the murders of Ms Valencia-Trujillo and Ms Wilkins.
Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Kevin Southworth said Ms Wilkins’ murder could have been prevented had he been kept in custody at one of those court appearances.
He said: ‘The obvious corollary, if he had been remanded at that point, is that he would not have been able to go on to commit, at the very least, the murder of Sheryl Wilkins.’
As a convicted sex offender, Levy was being monitored by the probation service and police but repeatedly lied to officers who visited him at the home he shared with his mother in March and July 2025, claiming he did not go out and watched YouTube and films instead.
He played on the fact he was partially sighted – Levy lost the sight in one eye in an attack in May 2024 – claiming that it made him unsteady on his feet.
Prosecutor Tom Little KC called Levy ‘a predatory serial sexual attacker’, who targeted the three vulnerable women, all of whom carried out street sex work in order to fund drug addictions.
All the women had drug addiction problems and the surviving victim, who gave key evidence in Levy’s trial, had been sleeping rough after being trafficked into the UK from abroad.
Jurors in Levy’s Old Bailey trial had viewed police body-worn video of officers speaking to the woman on the street after she had been seriously injured during the course of a brutal rape.
She begged to be taken to hospital for treatment for her broken collarbone but was instead taken into custody for breaching a community order on January 25.
Police were unable to follow up on her allegations until after the two murders, when she identified Levy in a line-up and told officers where he lived in Tottenham, north London.
Giving evidence in court, the woman described the ‘traumatising’ effect of being stopped by police and quizzed about her rape experience in the street on September 6.
Weeping, she described to jurors being pounced on and assaulted by Levy in the same car park where one of the murder victims was later found dead.
She told jurors: ‘I would not think this man would be so evil. I believe I’m going to die.’
Jurors were told that the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had since received help to find accommodation and treatment for her drug addiction problems.
Mr Southworth warned Police are facing a ‘vast and rising tide of sexual violence’ with the growing number of registered offenders putting strain on the criminal justice system.
He said the Met, Britain’s largest, has more than 10,000 registered sex offenders to monitor, a number that has grown by more than 1,000 in the past few years.
The double killer was never on the Met’s ‘V100 list’ of the most dangerous offenders to women and girls.
Mr Southworth said: ‘While we know now Levy is one of the most dangerous and prolific offenders we’ve encountered in recent times, if you go back to spring of last year, at that point, he was one of many people who was involved in sexual offences and was on the registered sex offenders list, but not necessarily one that would have stood out from others at that time.’
The senior officer said Levy would only have come to notice as a particularly dangerous offender when his crimes escalated in 2025, even though he had been accused of rape and multiple sexual assaults in 2023 and 2024.
‘At that point, that offending alone wouldn’t necessarily in 2023 and 24 have stood him out from a vast number of other registered sex offenders and prolific offenders in our midst.
‘Sadly, because of the scale of what we’re dealing with, we face unfortunately a very vast and rising tide of sexual violence.
‘What has stood this man out to me now, and to us all, is the acceleration in his offending in this last nine months to 12 months of 2025.’
Two Metropolitan Police officers are under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct over how they dealt with Levy.
Timeline of Levy’s escalating attacks and contact with authorities
– July 2018: A woman reports being sexually assaulted by Levy at a party at Camden Market, where he shoved his hand down her trousers and into her underwear.
– August 2018: A second woman reports being sexually assaulted by Levy after meeting him on the way to Notting Hill Carnival. She and a friend danced with him briefly, and he put his hand down her trousers.
– October 16, 2019: He is arrested for both offences and charged on July 1, 2020.
– September 30, 2021: Levy is convicted at Southwark Crown Court and jailed for two years.
– April 14, 2022: He sexually assaults a woman at HMP Brixton by touching her bottom as she walks upstairs.
– February 17, 2023: He is released from prison.
– October 24: Levy gropes a woman while on the Jubilee Line, trying to put his fingers in her vagina over her sports leggings during the morning commute.
– May 2024: Levy is accused of a rape in north London and recalled to prison. He is released in August 2024.
– October 21: He ‘gripped’ a woman’s bottom on the Central Line as she travelled to work. As she filmed him to get a clear image of his face, he then did the same to another, as yet unidentified woman.
– October 28: He touched another woman’s thigh as she travelled on the Central Line, then also grabbed her vagina as the train pulled into Liverpool Street.
– November 4: He is recognised by a British Transport Police team, arrested and interviewed but denies any wrongdoing. There is not enough evidence to bring charges and he is released on bail until January 22, 2025. His bail is extended to April 16 2025 because of delays in organising an identification parade.
– January 21, 2025: Levy commits grievous bodily harm with intent, non-fatal suffocation by smothering, and two counts of rape against a woman who cannot be named for legal reasons, in Haringey, north London.
– January 25 The woman tells police that she was raped four days earlier, but is too unwell to be interviewed because she is withdrawing from drugs. Detectives say they faced difficulties because she gave the wrong date at one point, there is a lack of CCTV at the site, and she is not easily contactable because she is homeless. Attempts to contact her via social services fail.
– March 17: Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo is found dead at the Aylesbury Estate in Walworth.
– March 27: A woman reports feeling continuous touches on her bottom throughout her Tube journey from Seven Sisters to Oxford Circus on the Victoria Line.
– March 28 – Levy is visited at home by a probation worker, and lies that he does not go out and watches films and YouTube instead.
– April 1: Levy is arrested for the murder of Ms Valencia-Trujillo but released on bail.
– April 3: British Transport Police had planned to arrest Levy, but delays this until after a risk assessment because the Met has released him under investigation for murder.
– April 7: A woman gets on the Tube at Finsbury Park, noticing Levy because of his “retro sunglasses”. He purposely falls into her and touches her vagina.
– April 8: Another woman feels something touching her bottom as she stands back to back with Levy on the Tube. As the train pulls into Charing Cross he deliberately lets go of a pole and bangs into her.
– April 16: He is due to answer bail for the two October 2024 sexual assaults but this is extended to May 1.
– April 26: A woman is travelling home from Westfield Stratford with her mother when she is assaulted by Levy at Stoke Newington Overground.
– May 1: A student who got on the train at White Hart Lane said Levy grabbed her bottom just before the train reached Seven Sisters.
– May 1: He is arrested for the April 7, April 26 and May 1 sexual assaults.
– May 2: He is charged with five counts of sexual assault for which he has been arrested, and is released on bail.
– May 3: Levy appears at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, charged with five counts of sexual assault between October 2024 and May 2025. The court agrees to bail on the conditions that he does not contact the victims, lives and sleeps at his home address in Tottenham, and only uses TfL transport for medical or legal appointments. He is specifically banned from travelling at rush hour, between 7am-10am and 4pm-6pm.
– May 16: The victim of the January rape is arrested for another matter but because of a late notification is released before she can be spoken to. Two weeks later another officer asks her about the attack but she declines to give more information. The case is eventually closed on June 8, with officers having failed to interview her.
– May 29: A woman gets on a Jubilee Line train at London Bridge as she travels to meet friends at a gallery. Levy twice grabs her vagina during the journey. She calls him a pervert and throws her drink over him.
– June 3: Levy does not attend his plea hearing for the five sexual assaults. He is also charged with the sexual assault on March 27. The court is told that he is ill.
– June 20: Levy is arrested for sexual assaults on April 8 and May 29 as well as a breach of bail, and is charged with all three offences.
– June 21: He appears at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, pleads not guilty, and is given bail by a panel of three magistrates. Charges of breaching his previous bail conditions are withdrawn. The same restrictions on his travel and contact with victims are agreed again by the court.
– July 10: During another probation home visit, Levy claims he is not going out much as he is not stable on his feet and does not meet friends.
– July 18: Again, Levy does not attend a plea hearing for the most recent offences with which he has been charged, at Inner London Crown Court. Neither Levy or his solicitor were told that the hearing had been listed, and the judge agrees to continue his bail conditions.
– August 11 – A rescheduled court hearing takes place, when again he does not attend and no warrant is sought for his arrest. The judge agrees to Levy’s bail conditions continuing.
– August 24: Sheryl Wilkins, 39, is found unresponsive in High Road, Tottenham.
– September 4: Levy is re-arrested for Ms Valencia-Trujillo’s murder.
– September 5: He is arrested for Ms Wilkins’ murder.
– September 6: He is arrested for the January rape while in custody for the other offences and charged.
– September 7: He is charged with Ms Wilkins’ murder.
– October 7: Levy is charged with the sexual assault on the Jubilee Line train on October 24, 2023.
– November 24: Levy is charged with Ms Valencia-Trujillo’s murder.
– February 4, 2026: Levy is convicted of 11 counts of sexual assault after a two-week trial at Inner London Crown Court.
– June 22, 2026: Levy’s trial for two murders and a rape starts at the Old Bailey.
– August 7, 2026: Levy is found guilty at the Old Bailey of murdering two women and raping a third.
After the verdicts, crime and policing minister Sarah Jones said: ‘This was a horrifying case.
‘My thoughts are with the families of Carmenza Valencia Trujillo, Sheryl Wilkins and all those who suffered at the hands of Simon Levy. I also want to commend the survivor who bravely came forward and helped bring this monster to justice.
‘The fact that Levy was able to inflict such devastating harm after being freed by police and the courts is deeply concerning. It raises serious questions that require urgent answers.
‘It is right that the IOPC are investigating how this happened, in addition to internal reviews by the organisations involved. Any failures must be identified and must not be repeated.’
Lisa Ramsarran, chief crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), said it had carried out a detailed review of their handling of the case.
‘We recognise the level of concern around this case and we have carried out a detailed review of our handling. We accept there was relevant information regarding bail that was not provided to the court, when bail applications were being considered.
‘Our actions fell short of the standards that victims, families and the public are entitled to expect.
‘In particular, there were points where we could and should have taken a more robust approach to representations about bail, based on the information available.
‘We cannot know what decisions the courts would have made had different or stronger representations been advanced.
‘But we recognise our responsibility and we are sorry for the shortcomings we have identified.’
British Transport Police Assistant Chief Constable Charlie Doyle said: ‘It is clear that opportunities to expedite the investigation were missed and we have amended our procedures to address these issues to ensure that repeat offenders are dealt with expeditiously, and that linked offences are prioritised more effectively.
‘It is possible that there are other victims of Levy who have not yet reported what happened to them.
‘If you recognise Levy and believe you may have been a victim of his offending, I encourage you to come forward and report it to us by texting 61016.’
