A Florida dad is making a desperate public plea after his 16-year-old daughter vanished from their home in the middle of the night, leaving behind nothing but confusion and a trail of unanswered questions.
Richard Cover says his world turned upside down when his “buddy” Sophia Cover walked out of their Golden Gate Estates house around 12:45 a. m. on July 31.
Surveillance footage captured the teen leaving without explanation, and her father only realized she was missing when he heard the family dogs whimpering.
“I thought I wasn’t going to cry, man,” Cover told reporters, his voice breaking as he described the helpless feeling that has taken over.
The family relocated to the quiet Florida community just four months ago, and Cover insists his daughter wouldn’t just run away. “There is no way that she’s going and leaving, putting me through this for five days. No way.
I don’t care what the reason is,” he said.
Now a massive search is underway, with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office launching a multi-agency investigation. But so far, deputies say they’ve come up with zero solid leads.
Cover has turned to social media and the local community for help, pleading directly to his daughter: “Everybody is looking for you. If you’re out there on your own, it’s really easy to come home. You can go to any police officer.
You can go to any adult that is safe.”
Authorities describe Sophia as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing around 115 pounds, with brown eyes and long brown hair. Anyone with information is urged to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-252-9300.
What would make a teen walk out into the dark without a word—and where could she be now?
