Wild video captured inside a high-rise building in Russia shows an overly packed elevator suddenly plummeting several floors and crashing to the ground.
The incident left four men with broken legs.
Authorities said the nightmare scenario unfolded in an apartment building in Makhachkala, which is located in the region of Dagestan.
Nine passengers got inside the elevator.
The elevator was only permitted to carry six people.
Footage from the scene shows the elevator suddenly jolting downward.
The violent motion knocks passengers into each other and pulls them onto the floor.
Officials reported that the elevator fell 50 feet.
It dropped from the fourth floor all the way to the ground.
Emergency services quickly rushed to the scene and tended to the wounded.
According to the region’s health ministry, four of the passengers suffered broken legs.
Miraculously, though, all of the injured are expected to survive.
The building itself was completed in 2021.
It never received a commissioning certificate from housing officials.
This has led Dagestan’s housing authority to question the legality and safety of the elevator.
A criminal case has been opened by Russia’s Investigative Committee.
The case is focused on the failure to meet safety requirements.
