The mystery surrounding a missing Oklahoma political candidate has taken a heartbreaking turn. Weeks after his body was discovered in a ravine, officials have now confirmed how Barry Christian died, leaving his community and family searching for answers.
Barry Christian, a 54-year-old Republican hopeful, was found dead inside his gray Ram pickup truck on April 30. The vehicle had plunged into a ravine near the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area, just south of Erick, Oklahoma.
The discovery came two days after he was last seen on April 28, following a massive search effort. Christian had reportedly failed to show up for a scheduled meeting, prompting concern from those who knew him.
According to a summary report obtained by The U. S. Sun, the local medical examiner’s office has ruled his manner of death as a suicide.
The probable cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head.
Christian was actively running for Oklahoma’s 38th district Senate seat, which covers several counties in the southwestern part of the state. Despite his passing, his name remained on the ballot during the June 19 election, where he reportedly received 530 votes.
In the days following the tragic discovery, his ex-wife, Farrah Christian, spoke out to honor his memory. She described him as a devoted father who lived for adventure and creating lasting moments with his children.
“He was all about fun. You know, he wanted to have fun with his kids,” she told ABC affiliate KOCO. “He had an RV at one point, and he would take the kids on RV trips and go four-wheeling, ride motorcycles.”
Farrah emphasized that his love for his family was matched only by his passion for his community. “I don’t know if there’s anyone in western Oklahoma that didn’t know who he was,” she shared.
“He never met a stranger,” she continued. “He was always friendly to everyone he came into contact with and just always had a big smile on his face. He just wanted to make Oklahoma the best it could be.”
