A Massachusetts mom accused of killing her three young children reportedly searched for chilling phrases like “how to slit throat to die” in the days before the tragedy, according to 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 new testimony in her murder trial.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington confronted a state trooper on Thursday with a series of disturbing Google searches allegedly made from Lindsay Clancy’s phone. The searches included “Where is the carotid artery?” and “How to turn airbags off on Kia Sorento,” though the trooper, Timothy Chiappini, said he did not recall those specific queries.
Chiappini did confirm that Clancy’s phone showed a search for “Can you treat a sociopath” just four days before her children were found dead in their Duxbury home on January 24, 2023. The trooper also testified about a flurry of searches related to postpartum depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, and hallucinations in the weeks leading up to the killings.
Earlier in the day, another trooper revealed that a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet linked to the family had visited a website titled “suicide methods” in August 2022. However, Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, previously testified that he conducted that search.
Prosecutors allege Clancy used exercise bands to strangle her three children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—before attempting suicide by slitting her wrists and jumping from a window. Her defense team argues she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis, worsened by prescription medication, and is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.
Jurors also heard a heartbreaking note Clancy reportedly wrote on her phone just weeks before the murders, expressing a desire for a fourth child. “I really want a fourth child but I need a good therapist before then,” the note read.
