Cops ๐๐ฝ๐๐ and ๐๐พ๐๐๐๐น a man who slashed his elderly father in the head after the maniac came at them with a large butcher knife inside the pairโs blood-soaked Manhattan apartment Sunday afternoon, police said.
Officers were called to the Ludlow Street home on the Lower East Side for an assault in progress at around 4 p.m.
They arrived to find a blood trail leading them up the stairs.
There, they came face-to-face with the knife-wielding madman, the NYPD said.

โOfficers entered the building, saw the trail of blood and responded without hesitation, not knowing what was waiting for them as they went up the stairs,โ Assistant Chief Melissa Eger said at a press conference later in the evening.
As the cops moved up the blood-stained staircase, they were met by a man, identified as Wei Chan, 54, holding a large butcher knife as he advanced toward them, Eger said.
The cops repeated multiple commands for Wei to drop his large blade, which he ignored, according to the NYPD chief.
โOfficers responded and discharged their firearms, striking the subject,โ Eger said.
Video from witnesses at the scene shows EMS administering CPR to Chan before he was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
Cops also discovered the suspectโs father, Chung Chan, 75, with a laceration to his head on the second floor.
Investigators determined he was knifed by his son.
He was also rushed to Bellevue, where he is listed in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to authorities.
A couple from Brazil in the city for their honeymoon were shocked by the bloody aftermath they witnessed as first responders attended to the father and son.

โI thought it was a neighborhood fight,โ said Fabio Gutierrez, 43, who was having dinner with his new wife, Debora Martins, at a nearby restaurant when the violence went down.
โWe saw the guy getting on the gurney, they were giving him CPR,โ Martins, 38, added.
โIโve never seen someone who seemed like they were dying,โ she told The Post.
โWe are tourists here; we are not used to seeing that kind of violence. So it was really, really ๐๐ฝ๐ธ๐ธ๐๐พ๐๐ to see the guy in that state.โ

Martins said she saw another man covered in blood being taken down the street by cops.
โHe was not good. He was all bloody,โ she said.
The 75-year-old does not know that his son is dead, sources said.
Chan does not have a prior criminal history with the NYPD, but has a documented mental health history, police said.
No officers were wounded during the altercation, and the knife was recovered from the scene.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he had been briefed on the officer-involved shooting and wished the wounded victim a โfull and speedy recovery.โ
โAs with every incident in which NYPD officers discharge their weapons, there will be an internal investigation, and body-worn camera footage of the incident will be released,โ Mamdani said in a statement.
