Meliza Campos-Sanchez, a 26-year-old aspiring influencer, is now in custody as ICE seeks to deport her, claiming she entered the U. S.
illegally from Cuba in May 2022.
Campos-Sanchez was arrested last Monday after fire crews responded to a blaze at her residence on August 16. Investigators later determined the fire was intentionally set, leading to the discovery of disturbing videos she had shared online. In these clips, she is seen pouring molten wax on herself and her children, actions that have raised alarm among authorities.
A spokesperson from Homeland Security emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This individual is charged with child 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 and arson after she poured hot wax onto one of her own children and then lit a fire in her home.” The spokesperson also criticized current immigration policies, suggesting that such incidents could be prevented with stricter border controls.
The ICE detainer issued for Campos-Sanchez requests local law enforcement to hold her for up to 48 hours post-release, allowing immigration agents to take custody. Following her arrest, her husband, Yusniel Cue, shared that the couple had been facing marital difficulties, which may have contributed to the troubling events.
According to police reports, one of the daughters recounted witnessing their mother burn clothing, which subsequently led to the fire while they were still inside the house. Investigators reportedly found flammable liquids and a lighter at the scene, further complicating the case against Campos-Sanchez.
After her arrest, she was taken to a hospital before being booked into a Miami-Dade jail. A court order has mandated that she remain away from her daughters as the legal proceedings unfold.
