Many students and residents in neighboring houses were asked to evacuate urgently when a dangerous chemical leaked from a train car in Hamilton County, Ohio, USA.
Aerial video shows firefighters spraying water continuously on the train car parked on the tracks.
The local Emergency Management Agency said the leak occurred on September 24 in a train car with an open valve, releasing styrene gas into the environment. The chemical is a toxic , flammable chemical used to make plastics and rubber. It can cause headaches, nausea and respiratory problems. Long-term exposure to the chemical can lead to more serious health problems, including organ damage.
Immediately after the incident, people were ordered to evacuate the area near Route 50 and the Great Miami River, west of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA. Residents in the surrounding area were asked to stay indoors and keep their windows closed.
The area where the incident occurred has many businesses and homes, as well as schools. School schedules were also canceled immediately afterwards.
There is currently no information on damage or injuries. Authorities are monitoring and investigating the incident.
