Daughters to dads who support Trump: ‘You chose him over me’

The anti-Donald Trump group, The Lincoln Project, is out with a new digital ad that’s focused on abortion and access to reproductive health care.

The ad comes as the former president has been trying to thread a divide between his own base of anti-abortion supporters and the majority of Americans who support abortion rights. Trump is trying to make up ground with women — a group that views Democratic nominee Kamala Harris more favorably nationally — in the handful of battleground states that will likely determine the winner.

Trump recently said he would veto a federal abortion ban, but his first administration paved the way for Roe v. Wade to be overturned and said he voted in his home state of Florida on a measure to uphold a six-week ban on abortions.

He has argued it should be up to the states to decide on the issue.

Nearly two dozen states have banned or severely restricted access to abortion.

Earlier this month, ProPublica reported that two women in Georgia died after they did not get proper medical treatment for complications from taking abortion pills to end their pregnancies.

In Texas, Kate Cox, whose fetus had a fatal condition, did not qualify for an abortion in the state — even after four emergency room visits, elevated vital signs, risks of a uterine rupture and her ability to have more children in jeopardy.

The ad shows a woman going through a medical emergency with a female narrator saying:

Narrator“It didn’t have to end this way dad. You were so excited to be a grandfather. When you walked me down the aisle, those were happy tears. College, high school, sports. I could always count on you. You were my protector. My hero. You always made me feel safe, loved (and) like I was the most important person in the world. But it turned out, he was more important.”

The video then cuts to clips of Trump and MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell

Trump“The fact that I was able to terminate Roe v Wade after 50 years of trying.”

O’Donnell“Each one of those abortion bans includes strict legal rules, rules that are designed to be impossible to comply with. How does a mother who is dying in a hospital bed get to a courthouse to prove to a judge that she’s dying?”

Trump“You will no longer be thinking about abortion.”

Narrator“You knew what he’d do. You knew his politics would end my freedom, my rights, my life. You chose hate over me.”
