Taylor Swift fans condemn Troy Aikman for calling popstar Travis Kelce’s “Mrs.” – “It was a chauvinistic, disgusting statement”

Troy Aikman is widely recognized as a prominent sports analyst today thanks to his incisive breakdowns of plays and athlete mentalities. But every now and then he often makes remarks that enrage fans and cause them to complain.

During the Monday night game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints, the ESPN commentator casually called Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of star tight end Travis Kelce, “Mrs.”:

Outrage immediately ensued:

More of it can be seen below:

“DO NOT call Taylor Swift ‘the Mrs.’ It’s demeaning,” one reprimanded.

“She’s bigger than you could ever dream to be, cowboy,” another ridiculed.

“Back in his cave! I really hope his kids are embarrassed,” another demanded.

His broadcast partner Joe Buck had to correct him as a result, to which he replied:

“Oh, I know. I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”

After the game, Aikman was briefed about its biggest narrative by Monday Night Countdown host Scott Van Pelt. He pointed towards Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, whom he credited with getting the job done (the Saints had fewer than 200 offensive yards with Derek Carr under center):

“The looks aren’t always the same, and they’re not each week. So you don’t know when they’re coming or what they’re going to be, and he mixes them up really well… You know you’re gonna get something, but you’re not sure exactly what it is.”

He continued:

“I think he utilizes his personnel really well… (like) Chris Jones, who’s just a disruptive force. He had the Saints on their heels the entire game. They just didn’t get anything going… Steve Spagnuolo was every bit Andy Reid’s equal tonight.”

The Chiefs will now enter their bye week. Their next game is a Super Bowl LVIII Rematch at the San Francisco 49ers on October 20. Kickoff is at 4:25 PM ET/3:25 PMCT/1:25 PM PT on Fox.

The Saints, who have now lost three straight after winning their first two games, will host the Buccaneers this coming Sunday. Kickoff is at 1 PM ET/12/PM CT, also on Fox.
