After bursting on to the scene as a teenager, Anne Hathaway has become a household name thanks to a string of successful films.
In fact, 25 years after making her television debut in Get Real, the Oscar winner has hardly aged a day.
Pictures of the star, originally from New York, on the red carpet from the early 2000s and a couple of months ago look almost identical.
Many will remember her as Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia, in the Princess Diaries – a role she bagged when she was just 17.
She then cemented her status as a Hollywood darling with Devil Wears Prada, where she played Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs – and may be reprising the role in a sequel, according to reports.
Despite reaching stratospheric heights in her 20s, Anne appears to be having something of a renaissance in her 40s as she secures headline roles in some of the biggest films of the year.
She played the older love interest of a world-famous pop star in The Idea of You which was released on Amazon Prime at the beginning of the summer, starring opposite man of the moment, Nicholas Galitzine.
During promotion for the film, the actress has been on the press rounds across the globe and has made more red carpet appearances – and fans have been left in awe of her youthful looks as she appears not to have aged a day.
Showing off her style prowess, the Oscar-winning actress is turning heads in daring necklines, adventurous accessories and sultry make-up as she proves she has very much ‘still got it’.
Over the years, Anne has revealed snippets of her self-care and exercise routines which may give some insight into how, at 41, she looks better than ever.
Five years ago, the Les Mis actress gave up drinking amid a promise to be sober while raising her sons Jonathan, born in 2016, and Jack, born in 2019.
The actress told People: ‘In my thirties, I had to give up alcohol. I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t lead the life that I wanted while drinking.’
The actress says she doesn’t plan to drink again until her kids have moved out.
Speaking to Boston Common Magazine, she also revealed one of her hangovers had lasted for five days, which put her off drinking altogether.
‘When I’m at a stage in my life where there is enough space for me to have a hangover, I’ll start drinking again, but that won’t be until my kid is out of the house,’ she said.
Dr Asha Chhaya, aesthetic doctor and medical lead at WY Skin Clinic told FEMAIL: ‘Giving up alcohol can have a profound impact on skin health and overall appearance.
‘Alcohol is notorious for dehydrating the skin, which can lead to a dull, tired complexion and exacerbate conditions such as redness and acne.
‘By abstaining from alcohol, Anne has likely mitigated these adverse effects, resulting in clearer, more hydrated, and youthful-looking skin.’
Dr Asha said alcohol can disrupt sleep, which is a vital component for skin regeneration.
‘My patients who have given up or reduced their alcohol intake often report that one of the most noticeable changes is how their skin appears brighter and more luminous, with a marked improvement in overall clarity and texture,’ she added.
And avoiding alcohol isn’t the only way in which Anne looks after her skin, as her long-term facialist revealed the actress has a strict skincare routine.
Su-Man told Net-a-Porter that she massages her face, puts on a face mask and applies SPF 30 every day.
The actress herself has also spoken in the past about how she has always prioritised her skin and protecting it from sun damage, after her mother encouraged her to wear SPF daily from a young age.
‘I even carry an umbrella if I walk in the sunshine and use spray tan if I need to look as if I’ve been sunbathing,’ she previously told the Sun in 2012.
Sure enough, in 2015, pictures emerged of her walking down the streets of New York City holding a turquoise umbrella in the sun.
Dr Asha Chhaya said: ‘She likely follows a consistent skincare routine, with sun protection as a top priority, using SPF daily.
‘Her regimen probably includes gentle cleansing, moisturising, and regular face masks to keep her skin hydrated and radiant.
‘It’s also likely that she incorporates antioxidant serums to shield her skin from environmental damage, and no anti-ageing routine would be complete without retinol – known for its ability to boost collagen production and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
‘Prioritising quality sleep and managing stress effectively, despite her demanding schedule, are also crucial elements of her regimen. It’s possible she benefits from regular facials and subtle cosmetic enhancements to further bring out her natural beauty.’
In terms of health and fitness, Anne works out regularly and has been known to exercise in sessions for an hour a day, five days a week.
Celebrity personal trainer Ramona Braganza, who helped Anne get in shape for her roles in Get Smart and Rachel Getting Married, said varying workouts are really important.
She told Women’s Health, that Anne would do her ‘321 training method’ which involved a mixture of cardio, circuit and core exercises using resistance equipment to increase strength.
Ramona said she particularly wanted to work on her arms to accentuate her back so it would help her posture while wearing her Oscars dress.
For those who don’t particularly enjoy exercise, Ramona said she would switch up her warm-ups with Anne so she would stay engaged.
‘We often warmed up by doing sun salutations. Or a dance warm-up. I enjoy leading as I have a background as an NFL cheerleader which helps,’ she told the outlet.
In terms of Anne’s diet, the actress has revealed she focuses more closely on nutrition now she’s in her 40s than she did in her younger years.
She told People: ‘I want to go back and talk to my 25-year-old self who felt like she didn’t have to do anything and just be like, ‘Oh honey, honey, there’s a whole other world out there and it tastes like an avocado’.’
Anne went through a phase of being a vegan when she was filming Interstellar but she gave it up to eat a piece of fish the following day and instantly felt better.
But those wanting to adopt Anne’s way of living will be glad to hear that she does not skip dessert.
Her personal nutrition coach Jackie Keller told Shape back in 2012 that would always put a sweet treat in her plan so that she would avoid cravings.
These included gluten-free chocolate chip cookies, marble cake, and fudge brownies.
As Anne creates timeless red carpet looks that are becoming among her most iconic yet, her sense of style, in both clothes and make-up, has helped her achieve these memorable outfits.
Dr Asha Chhaya gave her thoughts on the star’s makeup routine and gave her own advice on how people can emulate her look.
She said: ‘It looks like Anne often goes for a fresh, natural makeup look to enhance her features without being overly dramatic.
‘I would recommend a lightweight, hydrating foundation or BB cream to even out your complexion without masking your skin’s natural texture. You want to avoid any heavy or cakey products that can settle into fine lines as this can be ageing.
‘Applying a soft, rosy blush on the apples of your cheeks will give you a healthy, youthful flush, while a touch of highlighter on the high points—think cheekbones, brow bones, and the bridge of the nose—adds a radiant, dewy finish.
‘For the eyes, neutral, soft-toned eyeshadows would be the best choice to subtly define and enhance without overpowering.
‘A sweep of mascara will open up the eyes, making them appear larger and more awake and on the lips, a natural, rosy shade or a glossy balm will keep them looking plump and hydrated.’
Dr Asha said it was possible that perhaps Anne had beauty treatments such as Botox and Skin Boosters, to maintain her youthful glow.
‘If she has undergone aesthetic procedures, they’ve been done with a light hand, preserving her natural beauty and highlighting her best features,’ she added.
In addition, celebrity stylish Rochelle White told Femail that Anne’s timeless style contributes to her overall glowing look.
She said: ‘The one thing I like about Anne and her style is that it feels easy and effortless. She might not get it right all the time (in the eyes of some), but I feel that on the whole she does a good job.
‘She is aware of her style, look and what she wants to say to the world with her style and choices.’
Rochelle says that Anne knows what works well for her body and or her shape which allows her to pick out flattering ensembles.
‘he has never been known for really skimpy or revealing outfits. She tends to keep it a modern classic with trendy pieces. This also helps her look younger and she picks the styles that don’t tend to date or go out fashion massively.’
