Sydney Sweeney used her in-home technology to help catch a Los Angeles burglar… while she was on the other side of the country.
The 27-year-old actress was in North Carolina filming her biopic on trailblazing female boxer Christy Martin, when the security cameras around her home alerted her to an intruder.
The burglar entered Sweeney’s property at approximately 3:30 AM on Monday, according to TMZ, though she didn’t stay on her lawn for long.
The suspect then gained access to Sweeney’s neighbor’s home and made off with a few items before fleeing.
Sweeney quickly alerted authorities in Los Angeles after seeing the footage, enabling local authorities to arrive quickly and apprehend the suspect.
The burglar was charged with felony burglary after being apprehended by the authorities.
Sweeney becomes the latest high-profile burglary victim, with the homes of many celebs’ targeted this year alone.
Tom Hanks, Jessie J, Sarah Hyland, Marlon Wayans and Corinna Kopf have had their homes broken into in 2024.
It’s unclear which home the potential burglary took place at, since she has two L.A.-area homes.
She bought her first home in the Westwood area of Los Angeles for $3 million back in November 2021, which hadn’t been on the market for nearly 50 years.
She also purchased a home in the posh Bel Air neighborhood for $6.2 million in 2023.
Sweeney signed on to play Christy Martin back in May, with David Michod (Animal Kingdom) directing from a script he co-wrote with Mirrah Foulkes.
Martin was the first prominent female boxer who helped put the women’s version of the sweet science on the map.
She was the first female boxer to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated and was the first female boxer to be signed by controversial promoter Don King.
She fought from 1989 to 2012 – under the nickname The Coal Miner’s Daughter – amassing a record of 49 wins, 7 losses and 3 draws.
Martin also survived a grisly murder attempt by her husband James V. Martin, where she was shot and stabbed several times.
James was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2012 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, which he’s currently.
