In a dramatic courtroom scene that erupted in cheers, the woman accused of masterminding the horrific torture and murder of a transgender man was handed the harshest possible punishment on Tuesday. Precious Arzuaga will spend the rest of her life behind bars without any chance of parole.
The judge didn’t hold back when addressing Arzuaga, who kept her head down throughout the sentencing. “We all want to know why,” the judge said. “Why was someone so good taken so tragically?”
Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old transgender man originally from Minnesota, had been lured to upstate New York under the promise of a loving relationship, according to court documents. Instead, what followed was a month-long nightmare inside a motel room.
From January 1 to February 2, 2025, Arzuaga allegedly led a group of six others — including her ex-girlfriend Jennifer Quijano and two children — in a relentless campaign of violence against Nordquist. The brutal acts reportedly included beatings with sticks, dog toys, belts, and even a table leg.
Prosecutors described the case as something out of a horror film, noting Nordquist was held captive and treated like an animal. “This is the worst of the worst,” one official said in court.
Before the sentencing, Nordquist’s mother spoke about her son’s gentle nature. “Sam had the gentlest heart of anyone I’ve ever known,” she said. “He saw the good in people, even when they did not deserve it.”
The motive, according to prosecutors, centered on jealousy. Quijano allegedly became enraged when Arzuaga’s attention shifted away from her and toward Nordquist. “She hated him for it,” an assistant district attorney stated.
Arzuaga and Quijano both pleaded guilty in July to charges including first-degree murder, kidnapping, and aggravated sexual 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮. Quijano also received life without parole.
Other defendants in the case are still awaiting trial, with proceedings scheduled for January.
As the courtroom erupted in shouts of “You’re the devil,” Arzuaga reportedly blew a kiss to her mother before being led away. What drove someone to commit such unthinkable acts remains a haunting question that may never be fully answered.
