I found out my wife was cheating on me because of the smartwatch I bought her for her birthday. She wanted to get serious about her fitness, and I wanted to help. I’m the tech-savvy one in the house, so I was the one who always updated her devices. That Friday, I was updating her watch and got curious about whether she was actually working out as much as she claimed.

She’d been saying she was doing great, but I wanted to check her accountability. I opened her workout history and saw a session from Tuesday. The route looked strange. She usually walked or jogged near home, and she only went to the gym when we went together.

This map showed her nowhere near the gym. I pulled out my phone and searched the address. It was a residential street, at least three miles from her work. The workout was logged at 2 a.

m. , right in the middle of the night shift she’d told me about. It lasted about thirty minutes, on and off, then stopped. I had a sick feeling immediately.

I tried not to jump to conclusions, but I couldn’t think of any other explanation. So I went through her phone. She didn’t mind because I was always updating things. I opened Google Maps and checked the location timeline.

She never even stepped into work that day. She went to a restaurant, then two hours later, she went to that house. She stayed there all night and only came home in the morning. There was no excuse.

She’d told me specific things about her night shift, about her co-workers, about going to the vending machines. I used street view and saw the house was just a regular house. No one was running an informal pharmacy out of it. I had enough to divorce her, but I wanted to know who and why.

I went through her messages. It didn’t take long to find a guy named Kyle. The messages were explicit, and they talked like they weren’t doing anything wrong. It was heartbreaking.

I had to screenshot everything. Even now, I struggle not to go back and read them. They make me feel terrible, but they keep my anger fresh. I need that anger.

I refuse to forgive a woman who cheated. We have two kids, and I want the best for them, but I have to put myself first. I can’t stay with her until they’re grown. The hate would be obvious long before then.

I confronted her in a way I thought was creative. We’d done family photo shoots before, so I told her I’d booked another one. I handled the photographer, but I also asked if their camera could take good videos. They said yes.

I told the videographer that when the drama started, they had to keep recording. I didn’t give specifics because I didn’t want them to stop when things got heavy. I chose a location. We always shot in studios, but I told her I wanted a different vibe, a nice street, more candid.

I also mentioned a garden-like spot I had in mind. I didn’t, but I wanted to keep her suspicions down. On the day, we drove to the spot I’d picked. I knew she’d recognize it because it was where her affair partner lived.

I saw her looking out the window toward his house, trying to be sly about it but failing. I parked right in front of his house and said we could get out. She immediately said she didn’t like the location. She said it was ugly.

I told her we could at least try some angles. She said she was willing to do the residential photos but wanted to find a better spot. I dismissed her concerns and got out with the kids. She refused to get out of the car for a solid five minutes.

She was acting like a toddler, but I knew exactly why. She’d be standing around taking photos on the street where her affair partner lived. And from what I could tell, the guy didn’t know she was married. She called me over and asked me to just say it.

I played dumb. She was trying to see if I knew something and had chosen the spot on purpose. I told her I hadn’t. Eventually, she got out and begged that we make it quick.

Even if I hadn’t known, I would’ve had suspicions based on her behavior. She was antsy, frustrated with the photographer for taking too long. I had to calm her down and apologize. The photographer engaged the kids, and they made some noise, which was normal.

Ava kept shushing them and looking back. When she shushed them too harshly, I scolded her. She said she was annoyed because we were in an unfamiliar neighborhood causing a racket. They weren’t making that much noise, but she was irritable for obvious reasons.

I hoped her affair partner would come out. I didn’t count on it, but I got lucky. He eventually came out of the house. The moment the door opened, Ava looked back, then immediately forward.

She told me she was going back to the car. I asked where she was going so suddenly, and she said she felt sick. I let her go. Kyle introduced himself.

I knew it was the same guy. Ava had been quick enough to get back to the car without him seeing her. I spoke to him, and I hated that he seemed like an okay person despite how much I needed to hate him. He said it was fine that we were taking pictures there, but asked that we not make so much noise.

I appreciated that and told him my wife had been very concerned about disturbing the neighborhood, so upset she’d gone back to the car. I asked if he could do me a favor and tell her it was fine since she wouldn’t believe me. He said it was fine and walked toward the car. As he did, I told the videographer to start recording like her life depended on it.

She nodded. I watched as he recognized Ava and jumped back. He was close enough that I could hear some of what he said. The last thing he asked was, “Ava?

” I don’t know what she said in return. He looked back at me, then at her. He pointed at me, and I heard the word “husband. ” I watched him get more and more upset.

He asked her to explain or she’d lose him right then. He stood quiet for a few seconds, tapping his foot. She seemed to say nothing, so he stomped away and came toward me. He was angry and pointed a finger in my face, asking who I was.

I asked who he was because I was Ava’s husband. I told him I could tell he knew her, and he was going to have to tell me how. He told me he was her boyfriend. That took me for a spin.

I had no idea they were that serious. I thought it was just an affair. I asked if he was joking. He claimed they’d been dating for about three months.

I assumed she’d deleted most of the messages because I hadn’t seen three months’ worth. I let him know I understood his confusion, but I was her husband, and I’d been with her for seven years. I gestured to our children and said they were our kids. We weren’t a casual relationship.

No matter how much he liked her, he had to acknowledge she was my wife. I added that I wasn’t laying claim to her any longer. If he wanted to be with her, knowing she’d lied to him like that, he could. I wasn’t going to keep things going.

He was grabbing and pulling at his hair in distress. I felt a little bad for the guy, but he’s still the reason things are ending for me. Ava did us both dirty, but I still don’t like him because he played a part, whether he knew it or not. I looked at the photographer, who confirmed she’d recorded everything.

Ava hadn’t come out of the car. I told Kyle to go back inside because I was going home with my kids and my soon-to-be ex. I advised him to go be with friends and get drunk. I’d had my chance to acclimate to the news.

It was his turn. We went home soon after. The photographer was paid and sent home. The tension in the house was crazy because we had to wait until the kids were in bed.

The moment they were, I approached her. She was already in tears. She started by telling me she could explain. I don’t know why I was in the mood to hear her out, but I was.

So I told her to explain. As far as she knew, I’d just chosen the worst possible place for a photo shoot. She told me the guy was just a friend who liked her too much. She’d tried to get him off her back, but he was insistent, and she didn’t want to cut him off entirely.

I knew that was a lie. I’d seen the way she acted the moment we got near the house. She’d been there enough to recognize it and for it to unsettle her. I asked if she’d been to his house before.

She paused. I asked if she’d spent her night shifts at his place instead of at work. That made her shake. She tried to deny it, but when I got more intense, she stopped denying.

She admitted to it, then stopped denying. I took that as an admission. I asked her what he had that I hadn’t given her. That’s what I wanted to know most.

But I never got an answer because she claimed there wasn’t one. She said it was just a moment of weakness. But that made no sense because her moment of weakness had lasted three months. She didn’t realize she’d basically admitted to the affair.

So I asked her again what she wanted to explain if she’d already acknowledged what she’d done. She just kept crying, and it was really pissing me off. I was going to start screaming, but the kids were sleeping. So I left the house, drove off, parked somewhere, and fell asleep in the car.

She called me a million times, but I didn’t answer. When I got back home, she was worried, but I didn’t acknowledge her. I went to see a divorce lawyer only hours after that. Now she’s been served with papers.

Our marriage is over, and it hurts, but at least I know I did my best. My divorce has been finalized. I don’t like being divorced, but I didn’t have a say. I was cheated on, and that’s not something I’ll compromise on.

The children are in the middle of it, and I hate that, but there was nothing I could do. We share custody. The house went to her. She’s getting alimony and child support.

She would’ve gotten a bunch of money from our savings if not for me taking my cut of the house’s value. Even though I feel emptier, I’m happy I’m done with her. I can finally begin to heal, though it’s going to be a long road. As one last FU to her, I released the video the videographer gave me.

I know it won’t have tangible effects like making her lose her job or having people shun her, but it’s one last dose of embarrassment. I want her to feel humiliated and in mental distress the way she was when I brought her to her affair partner’s house. I wasn’t there to watch her pain, but a friend of hers and her mom called me to ask what happened, so I know word got around. That’s enough for me.

I’m not here to stay more attached to her than I have to. We’ll co-parent because I have no choice. If I could’ve had full custody, I would’ve taken it. But that wasn’t my choice.

I don’t have regrets. I did what I could to make the marriage work. I married someone I never thought would cheat on me, so it is what it is. Some people might say the photo shoot was too much, but after three months of gaslighting and deception, I can’t blame anyone for wanting the truth to blow up in real time.

She refused to get out of the car, which told you everything before a single word was said. She knew exactly why she was panicking. Then she said he was just a friend. Seriously, lady, the man literally walked over and introduced himself as your boyfriend.

At that point, the lies were on life support. What really sucks is that I kept asking what he had that I didn’t. Probably nothing. Sometimes people don’t cheat because they’re missing something.

Sometimes they cheat because they think they can have everything without getting caught.
