Manchester City could be in for a huge talent if they manage to acquire Belgian youngster Jeremy Doku, as the 21-year-old also impressed Kylian Mbappe.
The 21-year-old, who plays for French Ligue 1 side Rennes, has spent three years in France since joining from Anderlecht and has found the net 10 times.
He has been a previous target for Southampton, who have since been relegated, while Aston Villa were also interested in the star.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have now added the young winger to their shortlist to replace Riyad Mahrez, who is headed to the Saudi Arabia top flight.
There is a chance Doku could move to the Etihad as Manchester City rank him above another player on their shortlist – Michael Olise.
Despite being just 21, Doku has also impressed in the national team, as he has racked up 14 appearances for his country, notching two goals and three assists, according to Transfermkt.
What Mbappe said
Doku’s potential was spotted years back by Kylian Mbappe, who was among the first players to admit the Belgian was special.
In 2021, Mbappe said:
“Recently I was talking with my father about which players impressed me when I was injured.
“One of them, because of his speed, is Jeremy Doku from Rennes.
“In five years as a professional football player, I have never seen someone develop so much strength from a standstill as him.”
Interestingly, Doku has earned the name “The Flash”, because of his exemplary pace on the ball.
