She travelled to France to compete in the French Open tennis tournament but was beaten in the fourth round.
And Serena Williams ensured to make the most of her trip to Europe as she enjoyed some downtime with her family while staying at a luxury hotel in the South Of France on Saturday.
The athlete, 39, looked incredible in a colourful swimsuit which boasted panels of bright yellow and pink and was seen cosying up to her husband Alexis Ohanian, 38, in between jumping into the cool water.
They both seemed to be having a fabulous time larking around, with Serena also using a small metal ladder to get into the water.
Serena donned a striking one-piece for the outing which featured a small strap around her neck and accessorised with a small gold necklace.
Happy couple: The athlete, 39, was also seen cosying up to her husband Alexis Ohanian, 38, (left) to take a snap in between jumping into the cool water (right), with the duo eyeing up the water before launching off the side and a diving board
Alexis also caught the eye in a pair of brightly patterned swimming trunks, with the Reddit founder leaving his long brunette locks down for the dip in the water.
Serena and her husband, who share three-year-old daughter Olympia, travelled to France so she could compete in the French Open tennis tournament.
But her hopes of victory were dashed last week when she was beaten in the fourth round 6-3, 7-5 by Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, 18 years her junior and one of the many talented players from the former Soviet Union who have flooded the tour over her long career.
The eighth seed tried to rouse herself in the second set, but there almost seemed to be an acceptance of her fate at a tournament she did not have high expectations of winning.
Impressive! She appeared to be in great spirits while making the most of the sunshine, with the star beaming smiles and laughing as she jumped from a metal staircase into the clear water.
‘I’m in a much better place than when I got here,’ she said. ‘I was just literally trying to win a match, because it had been a really difficult season for me on the clay, that’s where I was.
‘I think I would have just played harder and played better today. I hate regretting, but I definitely would have just tried to do that.’
Serena played down talk that this may have been her last match at Roland Garros, but admitted she was looking forward to the coming weeks.
‘I’m kind of excited to switch surfaces, historically I have played well on grass. There is literally a point here or there, that could change the whole course of the match. I’m not winning those points.’
Serena and the Reddit cofounder were married in New Orleans November 2017, just a month after they welcomed their first child- daughter Olympia.
In October of last year Serena, who recently mini replica of her iconic Australian Open outfit for Olympia, revealed on Insta Stories that her little girl was following in her footsteps by signing up for tennis lessons.
However she was to be instructed by neither her mother nor by her aunt Venus who is also a tennis star, according to Serena’s posts at the time.
In fact Serena shared that the teacher they have chosen at that point had ‘no idea’ that her new pupil is the daughter of a world-famous athlete.
She also said she would leave the lessons immediately after dropping Olympia off so as not to be an ‘overprotective’ or ‘distracting’ influence.
