Tom Cruise is known for his outrageous stunt work. However, according to his longtime Mission: Impossible co-star Simon Pegg, there is a lot of planning that goes on behind the scenes prior to Cruise taking on a dangerous stunt. Tom is very organized when it comes to the plans prior.

Pegg reveals, “Tom is very, very diligent when it comes to preparing for these things. He’s not crazy. Everyone says, oh, he must be crazy. He does, you know, but he trains hard. Everything is in place. It’s a well-oiled machine.”

Nonetheless, Pegg is still blown away when the actual stunt takes place, and the dangers involved.

“We were up there just to see it. … We were all a bit hysterical because, I mean, we trust him and we trust the system. We trust everything involved,” Pegg explained. “But still, it’s nerve-wracking, and he would disappear, and then we’d wait and there’d be a big sort of pause. And then you’d hear good canopy, which meant his chute had opened at least. But he still had to get down to the boom. So it was exhilarating, to say the least.”

Cruise remains at the top of his game and he has some of the best individuals around him. However, disagreeing with Tom about a particular stunt isn’t always the best decision…

Matt Damon Revealed Tom Cruise Fired A Stunt Coordinator When He Was Told His Scene Was Too Dangerous

Speaking alongside Conan O’Brien, Matt Damon told the story of his dinner conversation alongside Tom Cruise. As expected, the conversation took a turn when Damon asked what a particular stunt was like. Hilariously, Cruise made quite the reveal, stating that the safety director deemed the stunt as unsafe, so he then decided to get another safety person on set…

Damon reveals, “I remember I had dinner with him once, and it was after he did the [Mission: Impossible movie] where he ran around the building. And I go, ‘Can you tell me how that happened?’ And he’s a really intense guy, and he was like, ‘I’ll tell you how it happened!’ I go, ‘Alright.’ And I’m in.”

“He goes, ‘I’ve been thinking about this shot for 15 years!’ And I’m like, ‘Wow, really?’ He goes, ‘So I go to the safety guy, and I lay it all out.’ Safety guy goes, ‘We can’t do that. It’s too dangerous, you can’t do that. So I get a new safety guy.’ That’s the beginning of his story.”

Damon revealed had the safety person told him this, that would’ve been the end of the stunt. However, Tom clearly does things differently…

Sure, the stories of Tom Cruise seem to be intense. However, one common factor continues to be how great the actor is with his fellow cast members. That was true then, and remains true until this very day.

Emmanuelle Béart appeared in the early stages of Mission: Impossible and even then, she was full of praise for the actor.

“I found him quite exciting as an actor, extremely professional and generous. I’d love to see him again, he’s someone good.”

The same holds true today, with his Mission: Impossible co-star Hayley Atwell praising the actor for her experience. “I had read with Tom before, I knew that he was very present,” the actress told E! News. “He was very professional and he goes out of the way to make sure anyone around him in working capacity makes them feel very safe.”

At the age of 61, Tom Cruise remarkably remains at the top of his game, while his stunts haven’t slowed down either.
