In a dramatic turn of events, an Irish woman found herself in hot water after allegedly attempting to flee Gran Canaria without settling a hefty £2,100 hotel bill. The incident unfolded at a resort in San Bartolome de Tirajana, where the woman was vacationing with her family.
The unnamed traveler had booked an 11-night stay at an all-inclusive resort, using a bank card for the reservation. However, when it came time to check out, the hotel staff discovered that the card had been declined, prompting them to reach out for payment.
According to a spokesperson from the National Police, hotel employees made several attempts to contact the woman regarding the outstanding bill. Initially, she indicated that she would resolve the payment issue, claiming she was unable to access her card as she was already at the airport. However, communication soon ceased, and the payment was never made.
As she attempted to leave the island, authorities located her at Gran Canaria Airport and arrested her at border control. Following her detention, she was taken to the Maspalomas National Police Station for further questioning.
