A chilling new video may have captured the final moments of Nolan Wells alive, as the 18-year-old college football star is seen enjoying a July 4th boat party just before his mysterious death.

The footage, obtained by TMZ, reportedly shows a young man believed to be Wells leaning over the side of a moored vessel on Horn Island, possibly grabbing a drink. The person’s face isn’t visible in the clip, but the individual is wearing light-blue swim trunks that match photos Wells posted earlier that day.

According to reports, the person who shot the video felt confident it could be Wells and handed it over to investigators. The metadata allegedly places the recording at around 2:23 p. m.

on July 4, just minutes before Wells was last seen on the island talking to a girl near 3 p. m.

GPS data from the boat Wells rode to the popular Mississippi barrier island shows the vessel left around 4:30 p.m., meaning this footage could be the last known sighting of him on film, according to NBC News.

Wells’ body was discovered in the water off Horn Island on July 6. While police say there’s no immediate sign of foul play and suspect a possible drowning, the family is not convinced. They’ve launched their own investigation, citing what they describe as inconsistencies in the teen’s death.

The video emerged just a day after Wells was laid to rest in his hometown of Ocean Springs. The emotional closed-casket service drew grieving parents, Rev. Al Sharpton, director Spike Lee, and former NFL star Terrell Owens.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Wells’ family, led mourners in chants of “Justice for Nolan Wells!” and “Nolan’s life matters!” during the ceremony.

He declared, “We are on a ferocious search for the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”
