A 35-year-old Ohio man’s dream beach life turned into a nightmare when he was found shot to death on a remote Puerto Rico shoreline — and now authorities say they’re eyeing someone in connection with the execution-style killing.

Top police brass revealed Thursday that investigators have identified a person of interest in the death of Tyler Wilkin, though they stopped short of calling the individual a suspect.

“What I can say is there is a person of interest,” Police Superintendent Joseph González told local outlet El Nuevo Día.

Wilkin, who had moved to the U. S. territory in January 2024 to live by the ocean, was discovered just after 6 a.

m. on July 10 in the mangroves of Playa la Selva. A beachgoer on an early morning walk found his body with a single gunshot wound to the head, according to reports.

The FBI has joined local authorities in the hunt for the shooter in what has been described as an execution-style killing.

González remained tight-lipped about the investigation, noting that no witnesses reported hearing gunshots around the time of the shooting.

“We know there aren’t many people in the area. It’s a bit complicated in terms of investigative leads. We can say that there are some leads,” he said.

Wilkin’s body was reportedly found some distance from the campsite where his tent and belongings were set up. González reiterated that no suspect has been established and the individual is only a person of interest at this point.

The heartbreaking case has taken an even stranger turn with the reveal of Wilkin’s final texts. His girlfriend, Iva Mo, told WKRC that she dropped him off two days before his body was found — and that he had been texting friends about a mysterious figure lurking near his tent.

“The howler is back!” Wilkin wrote to a friend around midnight, describing someone setting off fireworks and “howling like a wolf.”

Two hours later, his final message hinted at growing unease.

“This guy is getting rowdy, LOL,” the text read, according to Mo.

Mo grew worried when her usual morning message never came.

“Like six in the morning he consistently, always, texts me, ‘Good morning, love.’ And I didn’t get a text message from him,” she said, fearing the worst.

Wilkin’s friends were expected to pick him up on Friday — just hours after he was found dead.

Mo has been left grappling with the senselessness of the loss, wondering whether the shooting happened during a robbery attempt or some other dispute.

“To have his entire future just taken away like that in just a split second for what? Like over a wallet or over, I don’t know, for whatever reason, like, it’s just really hard to accept,” she previously told the Ohio outlet.

Friends have since launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a private investigator, hoping to uncover answers and leave no avenue unexplored.

“We lost Tyler far too soon, and the grief left behind is impossible to put into words. As his family and friends continue to navigate this heartbreaking loss, we are determined to do everything we can to seek the truth and ensure that Tyler receives the justice he deserves,” the fundraiser read.

“Tyler deserved a full life, and he deserves for every possible avenue to be explored,” organizer Lilly Wright wrote.
