Newly released bodycam footage shows the chaotic moments after a drunk driver plowed into a bride’s golf cart â and the driver’s desperate plea to check on the woman she’d just killed.
Jamie Komoroski, then 25, was caught on police body cameras screaming at bystanders to âgo check on herâ moments after the April 2023 crash that left 34-year-old Samantha Hutchinson dead in Folly Beach, South Carolina.
According to footage released by local station WCSC, Komoroski asked âIs she okay?â while sitting on the roadside, then yelped for someone to help the bride as an officer surveyed the wreckage.
Her rental car had hit the golf cart from behind at 65 mph, deploying the airbag and sending smoke into the air. Komoroski was helped to her feet and appeared to point at Hutchinsonâs body before being led away.
An officer was heard saying, âWe can get a blanket and cover her up,â just before 10:30 p.m. on April 28.
But once Komoroski composed herself, the bodycam shows her turning uncooperative.
She had spent an hour drinking at bars before the crash. Initially telling cops she hadnât had a drink, she later admitted to a beer and a tequila pineapple cocktail.
When an officer asked her to rate her impairment on a scale of 1 to 10, Komoroski fired back, âI would like a lawyer right now, honestly.â
She also demanded to call her father â a request the officer refused. Inside the police station, she continued to complain, saying âI just, like, want to get it over with and go home.â
At one point, an officer told her, âYouâre a grown adult and youâre crying on camera.â Komoroski responded by slurring, âYeah, hello, Iâm crying because heâs not letting me call my fââking father even though they havenât proven sâât.â
She then imitated the officer and claimed it was her right to have a phone call â even though that right is not guaranteed by the Constitution while in custody.
Komoroski refused to provide a breath sample, snapping, âI donât have to prove anything.â
Authorities later found her blood alcohol content was 0.261% â more than three times South Carolinaâs legal limit of 0.08.
In December 2024, she was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to reckless homicide and DUI charges.
During the trial, Hutchinsonâs widower, Aric Hutchinson, told the court he wished he had died alongside his bride. âI donât have joy, I donât have passion, I donât have drive. I am stuck in hell,â he said.
Komoroski apologized to the victimâs family, saying she would âalways be devastatedâ and âdeeply ashamedâ of her actions.
