As Coronation Street continues its slow and unsettling morph into something that feels more like Orange is the New Platt, or what some fans have colloquially begun calling Prisoner: Cell Block Platt, Sarah Platt’s nightmare stay in the clink is about to get even worse.
You might think that when you live on a street like Coronation Street, a spell behind bars would feel almost like a spa retreat.
After all, the residents of that famous cobbled street have seen it all, from murders to betrayals to dramatic courtroom showdowns.
But that is certainly not the case for Sarah.
She is having a truly hellish experience behind bars.
This all started after the police finally figured out that she had murdered Theo Silverton.
She had bashed him over the bonce, watching in horror as he tumbled to the street below the scaffolding where they had been precariously standing.
The moment was violent and chaotic, and it set off a chain of events that has only grown more terrifying.
Where did Sarah turn after she offed the thuggish Theo?
Not to her copper boyfriend, Kit Green, that is for sure.
No, she needed someone a bit rougher around the edges, someone who understood the dark side of survival.
She called on Gary Windass, a man who had previously disposed of a villain and gotten away with it.
Of course, being locked together by such a dark secret did not come without its own set of problems.
Before long, what with all of their whispering in dark corners, both Kit and Gary’s wife, Maria Connor, became convinced that they were sharing more than just conversation after dark in the builder’s yard.
The tension mounted as suspicions grew.
When Kit learned the truth after an attempted proposal went drastically wrong, he tried everything he could to pin the killing on Gary.
Gary had become his arch nemesis at this point, but all of Kit’s efforts were to no avail.
Lisa Connor-Swain arrested Sarah and told Kit to stop sticking his beak in to try and save her.
She warned him that if he continued, his career would be on the line.
Kit has not stopped, though.
He continues to blackmail Gary, having discovered where he disposed of the weapon that Sarah wrapped around Theo’s head.
Meanwhile, inside the prison, Sarah has faced the wrath of a couple of prison bullies.
She is now sporting a mashed up face to prove just how brutal the experience has been.
Still, at least she has got her new mate Kacey, right?
Remember that name, because it is about to become very important.
This week sees Sarah determined to set Kit free from the mess she has created.
She breaks up with him, reasoning that she cannot be the reason his career and his life epically fall apart.
The decision shatters his already fragile heart into pieces.
Next week, Sarah finds herself regretting the dumping.
That is when Kacey arrives in her cell, sobbing about her son being arrested for armed robbery.
Knowing that Sarah’s now ex-boyfriend is a copper, Kacey wants her to ask him for help.
When Sarah refuses, Kacey turns nasty and threatens her.
Explaining her situation to Todd Grimshaw, he tells her straight: ask Kit for help, or he will.
She acquiesces and summons Kit for a visit, asking for his help.
But he refuses, leaving her to face violence from an incensed Kacey.
Later, Kacey makes it clear that should her son face further legal trouble, she will be holding Sarah personally responsible.
