Heartbreaking tragedy unfolds in Kansas as a registered 𝒔𝒆𝒙 offender allegedly murdered his wife and four young children before taking his own life, leaving a community in shock and searching for answers.
Ronald Williams, 53, reportedly shot and killed his wife Kelly George, 44, and their four children—Carol, 9; Ronald Jr. , 7; Sarah, 5; and Kelly Magee-Williams, 3—inside their Winfield home around 9 a. m.
Tuesday, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities say Williams then called 911, admitting he had killed his family and planned to end his own life. When police arrived, they heard a single gunshot before discovering all six victims with gunshot wounds around 11 a.m.
The KBI stated that Williams likely killed the five family members before making the call and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after law enforcement reached the scene.
Neighbors were left deeply disturbed by the events. Ann Stofferan told KWCH-TV, “I heard what happened, and once I heard it was a whole family and children, it just made my stomach churn actually. I just felt so sad and heartbroken for that family.”
Another neighbor recalled Williams reportedly telling his wife, “I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it, I’m going to call the cops and I’m going to do it.” She added, “How do you 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 your own family? How do you do that?
I just don’t get it.”
Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong said at a press conference, “In my 20-plus years here, no, I can’t remember anything remotely close to this.” He noted that officers had previously responded to calls about Williams’ erratic behavior, but nothing suggested such a tragedy was imminent.
Court records show Williams was a registered 𝒔𝒆𝒙 offender, convicted in 1998 for attempted indecent liberties involving a 15-year-old girl. His registration was set to expire in July 2028. He also faced charges for battery, attempted rape, burglary, and 𝒹𝓇𝓊𝑔-related offenses.
The KBI and Winfield police are actively investigating the shooting.
