In a haunting revelation during a recent court hearing, Lindsay Clancy reportedly told her husband that a male voice compelled her to take the lives of their three children and herself. This chilling account emerged from the testimony of hospital psychologist Paul Zeizel, who spoke in a Plymouth, Massachusetts courtroom.
The 36-year-old Clancy, who is currently recovering from a suicide attempt, reached out to her husband Patrick Clancy on February 6, 2023, just 13 days after the tragic deaths of their children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan. The call took place while she was hospitalized at Brigham and Women’s, where she was being treated following the incident.
During the call, Clancy expressed her love for Patrick but also shared that she had been hearing a voice instructing her to commit these horrific acts. Zeizel recounted her words: “She said she heard a male voice ordering her, telling her that she didn’t have any choice, that she had to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 her children and 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 herself.”

The psychologist was called to testify by Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, who is advocating for a not guilty by reason of insanity plea. Reddington aims to demonstrate that Clancy suffered from severe postpartum psychosis, exacerbated by the powerful medications prescribed to her.
However, prosecutors argue that Clancy’s actions were premeditated, suggesting that she was fully aware of her actions at the time. They highlighted that she never reported hearing voices to her medical providers prior to the tragedy, raising questions about her mental state.
Dr. Donald Condie, another psychiatrist who testified for the defense, suggested that Clancy may have concealed her mental health struggles out of fear of losing custody of her children. This adds another layer of complexity to an already heartbreaking case.
As the trial continues, the jury is set to reconvene, with Zeizel expected to provide further testimony. The emotional weight of this case leaves many wondering how it will ultimately unfold and what it reveals about the struggles of mental health.
