A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Montana as a father mourns the loss of his two children, along with several family members, in a devastating shooting that also saw their home engulfed in flames. Adam Ghekiere, who was working as a rescue firefighter during the incident, shared his frantic efforts to reach his loved ones after hearing emergency crews had responded to a scene near his in-laws’ residence in Billings.
Ghekiere’s family was shattered when his daughter Charlotte, 12, and son Landon, 15, were among the eight victims killed in the horrific attack. He also lost his wife Megan, her two children Chloe, 7, and Owen, 13, their 92-year-old great-grandmother, and two other relatives. In an emotional conversation with The U.
S. Sun, Ghekiere recounted his desperate attempts to contact his children as he received alarming updates.
“I tried calling the house, but there was no response. I checked my kids’ locations, and still, no one answered,” he revealed. The situation escalated as he arrived at the scene, only to be held back by authorities due to the ongoing threat.
“I feared the worst right then,” he added.
According to Ghekiere, the shooter, who reportedly took his own life after the attack, is a family member who had developed a grudge against his parents. “I don’t think the shooter expected my kids to be there,” he said, reflecting on the unimaginable circumstances.
Law enforcement officials have yet to disclose a motive for the killings or the identity of the suspect. The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that detectives remain on-site, working to recover the victims’ bodies.
Emergency services rushed to the house after receiving reports of gunfire and an unconscious child. Dispatch audio revealed that one individual was transported with a serious gunshot wound. When responders arrived shortly after 6:10 p.
m. , they found the home already smoking, with additional gunfire ringing out before the house was consumed by flames.
A GoFundMe page has been established in memory of Charlotte and Landon, where tributes have poured in. “Our community lost two of its brightest lights, Landon and Charlotte, along with six other family members, in a senseless act of violence,” the page states. Landon was described as a “patient, protective, and loving big brother,” while Charlotte was remembered as “funny, precocious, and adorable — with just the right amount of stubborn.”
