The heart-wrenching case surrounding the tragic death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner has taken another unexpected turn as the trial of her stepsibling, Timothy Hudson, has been postponed yet again. The 16-year-old, accused of murdering the cheerleader during a family cruise last November, is now set to face court on November 2, following a recent ruling by a Florida judge.
Initially scheduled for June 1, the trial date was first moved to September 8 before being delayed once more. According to reports, Hudson’s defense team requested the postponement to allow more time for a thorough investigation into critical aspects of the case. Hector Dopico, an assistant federal public defender, emphasized the need for additional preparation in court documents, citing the complexity of the situation and the seriousness of the charges.
Hudson is facing severe allegations, including murder and aggravated sexual 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮, and could potentially spend the rest of his life behind bars if found guilty. He has until October 23 to enter a plea regarding the charges.
The defense’s request for more time was also influenced by the “unique and unfortunate family dynamic” that has emerged as a result of the allegations, according to court filings. Notably, prosecutors did not oppose the delay, allowing the trial to be pushed back nearly a year after the tragic events unfolded aboard the Carnival Horizon.
On November 6, the day before her body was discovered, Anna was reportedly alone with Hudson in their shared cabin, along with her younger brother. It was during this time that she allegedly suffered a fatal attack. Disturbingly, her Apple Watch, which tracked her heart rate, ceased functioning during a critical three-and-a-half-hour window, leading investigators to suspect that the crime occurred during this period.
When the ship docked in Miami, FBI agents were unable to locate Anna’s watch, and sources claim that her body was hidden under the bed in the cabin, mere feet away from where her brother slept. Anna had visible signs of trauma, including bruising around her neck and injuries near her ear.
Court documents reveal that Hudson allegedly checked the cabin multiple times during the night, raising further questions about the events leading up to Anna’s tragic death. A grand jury later indicted him, stating that he “did knowingly and unlawfully perpetrate” the premeditated killing of Anna with malice.
Anna, a dedicated student with dreams of joining the military, was just months away from graduating from Temple Christian School in Titusville. Her father, Christopher, poignantly accepted her diploma at the graduation ceremony held in May, a bittersweet moment that underscored the family’s loss.
