Immediately recognisable when his music hits, The Rock’s return sent fans instantly into a frenzy before Wrestlemania 40.

Despite the building shaking, the most electrifying man in sports entertainment was the subject backlash upon his return.

When he entered the ring after Cody Rhodes had won the Royal Rumble and stepped past the American Nightmare to confront Roman Reigns, fans were left confused and frustrated.

It seemed that his return to action would see him face off with his family to main event Wrestlemania 40, while Rhodes stepped aside.

But WWE moved away from that direction as Cody opted to race Reigns instead and The Rock aligned himself with The Bloodline.

And it would appear, this decision will have repercussions when Wrestlemania 41 rolls around.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan is to have Rhodes and The Rock face off at Wrestlemania 41, in a match that could pit the WWE Championship against The People’s Championship.

Meltzer stated, ‘Those in WWE have noted that there is no guarantee Rhodes will be champion at that time, which is where the people’s belt comes in. But so many things can change over the course of a year.’

The initial move by The Rock set up one of the most violent and enthralling feuds in recent history in the build-up to the company’s biggest show.

The Rock took to social media almost weekly in explosive, expletive laden rants at The American Nightmare, taking shots at his mum in the process.

He even made sure to mention the late great Dusty Rhodes as he took every verbal jab possible.

That culiminated in a tag team match between The Rock and Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night one of Wrestlemania 40, that saw the Bloodline come out victorious.

Despite losing on the first night, Cody would go on to be victorious on night two and claim the WWE Championship.

The following night on Raw The Rock confronted the new champion and told him never to break his heart again before seemingly returning a gift Cody had given the People’s Champion.

Since then, The Rock has turned his attention back to Hollywood as he prepares for his role as Mark Kerr in ‘The Smashing Machine’.

But it would appear that fans will not be disappointed as they wait with baited breath for the moment Rhodes and The Rock meet one-on-one in the middle of the ring.
