Lewis Hamilton put in a stellar drive during the 52-lap Silverstone race!
The 2024 British GP was anticipated to be a banger. Mercedes locked out the front row and Austrian GP winner, George Russell was expected to lead the charge. However, this soon changed as the weather wracked havoc on the track, which saw Lewis Hamilton portray his expertise and claim his record-breaking ninth win at Silverstone.
The race began calmly with George Russell leading the pair. This changed quickly as the British weather took over the track and inconsistent showers began. This allowed the McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to overtake the Mercedes duo. Unfortunately, the Russell retired from the race leaving Lewis Hamilton as the lone Mercedes on track.
With an exciting strategic battle ensuing in the dying stages, the former world champion extracted every single bit of performance from the W15 and took the chequered flag.

Lewis Hamilton revealed the extent of importance of the race win in Silverstone
Hamilton would be leaving for Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season. This means that the ongoing campaign would mark the end of a 12-year partnership between him and the German marque. Thus, a win in his last outing with Mercedes at Silverstone would have meant a lot to him.
The home hero explained how he had been eluding for a race victory here.
“I can’t stop crying. Since 2021, every day getting up trying to fight, to train, to put my mind to the task. This is my last race here at the British Grand Prix with this team so, I wanted to win this so much for them because I love them. I appreciate them so much. I’m forever grateful to everyone at Mercedes”. Lewis Hamilton said in the post-race interview hosted by Jenson Button
Hamilton elaborated that since his last win in Saudi Arabia in 2021, he had been fighting hard to stand atop the podium’s top step. This made the win with the Silver Arrows even more special as a lot of hard work had been poured into achieving this.
Apart from this, Max Verstappen finished runners-up, heading Norris. Thus, heading into the short break, the Dutchman extends his advantage over his rivals but might be in a false sense of security as rivals are catching fast.
