The 2024 British GP ended with Mercedes Lewis Hamilton winning the race. This was the first time Hamilton won a race since 2021. McLaren’s Lando Norris secured third position behind Max Verstappen and Hamilton at his home Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Lando Norris during the post race interview explained there were many things they regretted doing. He mentioned that deciding which tires to box onto towards the end and boxing a lap later was completely his responsibility. The Briton acknowledged that it was a matter of driver feeling and knowledge of when to box, and Lewis Hamilton did it better than him. Norris admitted that he chose to box onto soft tires which was a bad decision for the final stint and did not help him surpass Hamilton to secure first position. Although there were many good decisions, some ultimately cost them the win.

“I had many regrets about the British GP. Choosing tires and boxing later was on me. Lewis did a better job than me. Picking soft tires for the final stint didn’t help me pass Hamilton. Despite good decisions, some cost us the win”. Lando Norris said

Norris was asked about the decision to switch to soft tires in the final stint. He mentioned Lewis Hamilton was already on softs and it was a wrong call. McLaren made a mistake by switching to softs because Norris said the car didn’t perform well on those sets of tires. He noted that their car’s balance makes them struggle in soft tires unlike Mercedes. As a result, Norris had no chance of beating Lewis Hamilton. Even if he had managed to get ahead of Mercedes, he believed he would still lose to Hamilton due to their car being slower.

“Lewis was already on soft tires, and it was the wrong call for us. Our car struggles with soft tires due to its balance, while Mercedes handles them well. I had no chance of beating them. Even if I came out ahead, I would still have lost to Hamilton because our car was slow”. Lando Norris added
