It didn’t take long for “boycott the NFL” to start trending on social media. In fact, it only took one game.
During the season opener between the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, fans stated their displeasure with the NFL for having Tasha Cobbs perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” prior to kickoff.
Fans thought it was wrong of the NFL to play the “Black national anthem.” Some called it a divisive decision.
“Boycott the NFL,” one fan said. “Ridiculous.”
“BOYCOTT THE NFL For playing the Black National Anthem,” a second fan tweeted. “There is only ONE National Anthem.”
Others, however, believe certain fans are just using their political views as an excuse to trash the NFL. And when the dust settles, those same fans will still be watching the NFL.
“If you choose to boycott the NFL, cool. Way fewer morons for me to encounter if I go to a game,” one person tweeted.
Another person said, “Ppl have been saying boycott the NFL for the last 8 years, and for the last 8 years the NFL’s viewership have continued to break its own records.”
Only time will tell if fans are truly willing to give up the NFL simply because “Lift Every Voice and Sing” played at Arrowhead Stadium.
All we can say is that we’ll be watching each and every game this season.
