Tyson Fury reveals why he may never unify belts with Oleksandr Usyk

Even though the entire world of boxing has been clamoring to get a unification boxing bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, the ‘Gypsy King‘ has other plans.

One of the main reasons Tyson Fury has been criticized for not fighting Oleksandr Usyk had never been publicly accepted as it was today by the big man himself. Boxing purists accuse him of only caring about getting his massive payday and guess what, they weren’t wrong. Instead of trying to move the sport’s level of performance forward, Fury’s admission is only perpetuating boxing’s biggest flaws. Those who say this is a dying sport in terms of performance are 100% correct, at least in the Heavyweight division. Supposedly, the best in each division need to fight each other in order to move the sport forward.

But over the last 20 years, ticket sales and pay-per-view numbers are the driving force behind the fights that are agreed upon. In a perfect boxing world, Oleksandr Usyk would’ve fought Tyson Fury for the unified championshp already. But the Fury camp seems to only care about money and they don’t mind accepting that’s what drives them. Rather than staying in fights against other boxing professionals, Fury saw a goldmine fighting an MMA fighter and took the opportunity as soon as he could. Fury spoke to The Daily Mail to confirm what everybody already knew about his greedy approach. Not that he cares people see him that way. Boxing is mainly a business, first and foremost.

Here’s what Fury said when asked ifhe would ever fight Usyk: “Nope, I am not interested in fighting Usyk. He’s a little Ukrainian dosser. That’s all he is to me. No interest in unifying the division. It doesn’t mean s*** to me. All that stuff about unifying and whatever, it really doesn’t mean anything to me. I am looking for the biggest payday. Most of the time, Usyk doesn’t cut it. He’s just a foreign person who doesn’t speak good English so you can’t really sell him. I am looking for probably another American. Probably looking to fight Jon Jones in a boxing fight.

“Haters are going to hate. I am getting a bag. I am getting a f***ing big bag too. So, I won’t feel bad when I am cashing my cheque in. I won’t care when I am eating ice cream and marshmallows all day drinking Pina Coladas. I’m not thinking, ‘what about those boxers?’ and all that s***. So, yeah, haters are going to hate. Everyone famous has haters. I’m sure Van Gogh had his haters too but I can’t name any of them today so that just shows you. We’ll be alright.”
