© Enter the Future of Luxury: Andy Waugh Unveils the Exquisite 80m Catamaran Concept ‘Decadence’

Decadence is a novel 80-meter catamaran design by the British firm Andy Waugh Yacht Design. The design is influenced by the automotive and aeronautical innovations of the 1920s and aims to encapsulate the essence of the era through new feats of design and engineering.

According to the design company, the Decadence “exemplifies the potential of the SWATH hull form” – referring to “small-waterplane-area-twin-hull” vessels. These catamarans are characterised by submerged, cylindrical hulls attached to a central body by stilts. According to the company, they offer “unique and exciting aesthetic possibilities that have yet to be fully realised in the luxury superyacht sector.”

The futuristic hull also incorporates a number of technological advancements, such as a 70 per cent reduction in pitch and roll movements compared to a conventional monohull superyacht for increased onboard comfort and security.

The 5,000 GT yacht will feature expansive interior spaces encompassing a 30-metre beam, with the possibility of an owner’s suite measuring 20 metres wide, 30 metres long, and 3 metres tall. Each deck will have entirely enclosable exterior areas for added privacy and protection from the elements.

The crew quarters and other technical areas of the Decadence can be relocated to the sponsors and outer vessels, thereby freeing up additional space in the main superstructure for guests.

The design studio also acknowledged that the yacht’s oversized beam would make it difficult to locate suitable marina berths, and it has devised multiple workarounds to address this issue. First, the increased stability of the hull form “eliminates the need for protection from inclement weather.” In addition, the design accommodates two 14-meter chase-boat tenders from Skyline Yachts that serve as transports to the shore.

Additionally, renderings depict retractable inflatable sails, indicating that the yacht will benefit from additional wind power. The studio also stated that the yacht will feature a “radical new propulsion system” that is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 30%.

Andy Waugh sailboat Design is renowned for its innovative sailboat designs, which include the 70-meter Serafina, 175-meter Acionna, 45-meter Revolution, and 90-meter Nouveau. In addition, the studio disclosed that it is working on a 100-meter-plus new build project for an American tech mogul, which is presently in the engineering phase at Dorries Yachts in Bremen, Germany.
