Tom feels that his newest action movie deserves more praise given how much work was put into it.
Tom Cruise appears to be struggling, and not only because he’s reportedly having a religious crisis after stepping away from the Church of Scientology. He’s also apparently unhappy with his career – specifically, that Barbie has been a bigger blockbuster hit than Mission Impossible 7.
Tom Is Jealous That Barbie Made A Billion At The Box Office
Via Splash ImagesSpeaking to The Sun, a source claims that Tom is feeling envious of Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster hit, especially since he apparently feels more work was put into his action movie. “Tom’s Mission: Impossible seven was hard-earned and overcame so many hurdles to make it into the cinema,” the insider revealed.
“But there is a feeling among the crew that they fought hell and high water to get it out only for Barbie to come along and overshadow it,” they went on. “It’s a really hard time in Hollywood right now so no one is knocking Barbie’s wins, it’s just left a bit of a sour taste in some mouths.”
So far, Barbie has earned over $1.18 billion at the international box office, making it the biggest ever female directed film. Margot Robbie alone reportedly stands to earn $50 million in profits after being a lead actor as well as an executive producer on the film.
While Mission: Impossible 7 surely hasn’t been a flop by any means, it hasn’t seen as much success as Barbie or its predecessors. So far, it has globally grossed $235 million.
To this date, the most successful movie in Tom’s iconic franchise is Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which made $791 million, which still isn’t enough to compete with Barbie’s billionaire status.
Tom may not just be salty that his latest movie didn’t gross as much as Barbie, but that none of the Mission: Impossible movies have seen such success, despite being one of the most popular action movie franchises out there.
Tom Is Going Through A Religious Crisis In His Personal Life
InstarBut Tom isn’t only dissatisfied with his professional career. The actor is reportedly having a personal crisis, as he’s said to have left the Church of Scientology after decades of involvement.
Recent reports note that Tom hasn’t been seen at the UK Scientology headquarters or the Church of Scientology building in central London, despite being mainly in the UK over the last several years filming Mission: Impossible. Rumors first began that the actor had become disenchanted with the church in 2021, though Tom has never formally addressed the speculation, even now.
If he has left the church, it could make his personal life tricky, considering his eldest two children, Isabella and Connor, whom he shares with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, are heavily involved Scientology members. Isabella revealed in 2019 that she became an auditor, a high-ranking position within the church.
However, Scientology reportedly played a part in Tom’s divorce from Nicole as well as Katie Holmes. It’s been said that Katie’s desire to get away from the controversial religion fuelled her decision to end their marriage and led Tom to agree to give her full custody of their daughter, Suri, 17. Reports say Tom hasn’t seen Suri in a decade, but perhaps that will change if Scientology is no longer a major force in his life.
