At the Monaco Yacht Show, Bassan&Benedetti introduced the Kestrel, an 80-meter converted explorer concept, part of an expansive collaboration with McFarlane ShipDesign for conversion projects. Adhering to the ethos of “form follows function,” the exterior design balances minimalism and cost-effectiveness while respecting the original hull.
The proposed donor vessel, equipped with a 1C ice-class hull, retains its equipment and engineering, while Kestrel’s “new blocks” offer various options for customization. With a growing demand for conversions due to time and cost advantages, the spokesperson emphasized the availability of supply vessels.
Accommodating 14 guests and 25 crew, Kestrel, designed by Bassan&Benedetti, features a layout with an elevated living area on the upper deck, a dedicated owner’s deck, and an observation lounge. Guest cabins on the main deck boast private terraces, with industrial-contemporary interiors preserving the vessel’s character. The hull hosts a 100 sq. m wellness area with a gym, spa, cinema, and a 125 sq. m toy hangar.
On-deck highlights include a 5.5-meter pool, an outdoor cinema, a certified helideck (with an optional heli hangar), al fresco dining areas, and storage for tenders, Jetskis, diving gear, and a submersible. Kestrel is projected to achieve a maximum speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots.
