The beloved former politician and Strictly Come Dancing star was found unresponsive in her Dartmoor home on July 9, raising serious concerns after she had suddenly stopped communicating with friends and family.
The 78-year-old’s death has sent ripples through the community, prompting counter-terrorism specialists to take over the case last month following the arrest of a suspect. Joshua Kerry, a 28-year-old from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, now faces murder charges in connection with Widdecombe’s death. Reports indicate he allegedly entered her home while she was having lunch, leading to a harrowing discovery just two days later when forensic teams were seen at her whitewashed bungalow.
In a significant development, detectives have revisited an attempted burglary reported to the Metropolitan Police in April 2025, which had been previously closed due to a lack of leads. Now, Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London claims to have uncovered new information that might have been overlooked at the time of the initial investigation.
Vicki Evans, the senior national coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, emphasized the importance of this update, stating, “Given the nature of this matter and the significant public interest in the investigation into Ann Widdecombe’s death, it was of critical importance for us to provide this update.”
Additionally, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is now looking into the actions of a CTP London staff member following a mandatory referral from the police force, adding another layer of scrutiny to this already complex case.
