Following the success of “Euphoria” and “Dune,” American actress Zendaya Coleman may be gearing up for another major project, igniting social media buzz and discussions across American platforms. American film journalist Daniel Richtman affirmed that Zendaya might soon embody the role of Queen Cleopatra.
Director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming film on the Egyptian Queen faced delays due to recent Hollywood actors’ strikes. The film is slated for release in 2024. For months, Angelina Jolie’s name was associated with the iconic role of Cleopatra. However, it appears Angelina departed from the project to join another film directed by Pablo Larrain.
Subsequently, rumors emerged suggesting Zendaya could assume the role of Queen Cleopatra, while Timothée Chalamet was purportedly targeted for the role of Octavius. This potential casting would reunite the pair for the third time after their appearances in “Dune” and the upcoming “Dune 2.” Meanwhile, Daniel Craig is rumored to portray Caesar. Filming is expected to commence in early 2024 if all the information is confirmed.
If chosen for the role of Queen Cleopatra, Zendaya would succeed several generations of actresses before her. Actress Elizabeth Taylor’s portrayal alongside Richard Burton in “Cleopatra” (1963) remains vivid in the memories of many audiences. Each subsequent portrayal by Claudette Colbert (1934), Vivien Leigh (1945), Sophia Loren (1954), Monica Bellucci (2022), and more recently, Marion Cotillard in “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom” (2023), contributed to the illustrious legacy of Egypt’s most famous queen in their unique ways.
While awaiting confirmation, the multitalented Zendaya continues to shine as Rue in the third installment of “Euphoria” (likely to release in 2025) – a series for which she received a Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actress. Fans can also anticipate her appearance in the film project “Challengers” directed by Luca Guadagnino, set for release on Prime Video soon.
According to Elle magazine, Zendaya is considered an icon of her generation. Born in 1996 in Oakland, California, she grew up immersed in diverse cultural backgrounds, with a German mother and a Zimbabwean father of Congolese descent. In the Zimbabwean language, her family name means “thank you.” Encouraged by her mother, a theater director, Zendaya pursued studies at the Oakland School for the Arts during her teenage years. She made her debut in a toy advertisement “iCarly” in 2009 alongside Stefanie Scott. Subsequently, she worked as a model for several brands like Macy’s, Old Navy, and Mervyns. Before venturing into acting, Zendaya participated in the musical comedy “Once on This Island,” portraying the character Ti Moune.
However, it was in 2010 that her career took off when she was cast in Disney Channel’s series “Shake it Up.” Playing the character Rocky Blue alongside Bella Thorne’s CeCe, the straightforward yet effective storyline depicted two young girls aspiring to become professional dancers, meeting and striving to achieve their dreams. The series was a success in the U.S. and globally. Zendaya’s family subsequently moved to Hollywood to provide her with better working conditions.
In 2011, Zendaya was nominated for a Teen’s Choice Award for her outstanding lead actress role in a television series. The following year, she appeared in “Amipolitiques” (Political Friendship) alongside co-star Bella Thorne. The film resonated with the audience, and Zendaya received a Kids’ Choice Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy.
From Disney Channel to Spider-Man, Zendaya has traversed a long journey. At 27, she shines brightly due to her talent and dedication. Blockbuster films have solidified Zendaya’s name in the realms of cinema and fashion, establishing her as a renowned actress.
