As a global fashion icon, Taylor Swift has a following of millions of fans eager to emulate her style.
Now the 34-year-old US singer-songwriter has prompted a sales frenzy at a small Scottish fashion label after being photographed wearing one of its dresses.
She wore the olive green Sweet Jane mini dress from the Little Lies online boutique in Perthshire for a night out in New York – and by the following morning it had sold out.
Yesterday business owner Jade Robertson said the £58 frock had been bought online and shipped to the US but staff had not known it was destined to be worn by the star.
They were thrilled when they saw a picture on social media of the Shake It Off singer – who is said to be worth £870million – wearing the crushed velvet dress after a dinner on Wednesday with actresses Blake Lively, 36, and Zoe Kravitz, 35.
Mrs Robertson, who set up Little Lies with her husband Stuart in 2015 from a bedroom at their home, said: ‘It’s super-exciting.
‘You genuinely can’t buy that kind of PR.
‘Taylor Swift surpasses celebrity. It’s the sort of thing that can change the trajectory of an independent business like ours.
‘When we woke up and got the image, by then we had already sold out of the dress.
‘We didn’t realise it was her it was going to but we’ve done a bit of digging and found out it’s definitely the same dress.
‘This is the kind of situation that’s unprecedented and has never happened to us before.’
The Little Lies label started as an online boutique but the Robertsons began creating their own designs in-house last year, specialising in styles with ‘bohemian irreverence’.
They oppose ‘fast fashion’ and only around 200 garments tend to be made in each style.
The green Sweet Jane dress, which went on sale in August, is available to pre-order in sizes eight to 24, but Mrs Robertson added: ‘We are not going to be making thousands. We want it to be a unique style.’
