Renowned YouTube personality and philanthropist, MrBeast, made headlines after purchasing a diminutive Outer Banks island for a mere $1. The 1,500-square-foot island, nestled in the Roanoke Sound southeast of Roanoke Island, is now leased back to its former owner.
Situated in the Wanchese Historic Mill Landing Marine District, the island holds a land value of $800, as indicated by Dare County tax records. MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is widely recognized for his engaging content on YouTube, spanning from entertainment videos to extensive giveaways. Additionally, he operates the nonprofit organization Beast Philanthropy.
Last year, Time magazine acknowledged MrBeast’s influence by naming him one of the 100 most influential people of the year. Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer, emphasized MrBeast’s positive impact, especially in environmental initiatives such as Team Trees and Team Seas campaigns, which aimed to plant trees and remove plastic from the ocean.
The recent acquisition of the Outer Banks island adds to MrBeast’s diverse portfolio of unique content locations. Filming on the island reportedly occurred about a month ago, involving a three-hour session facilitated by three local boats with captains. The crew, equipped with cameras and a drone, adhered to a confidentiality agreement, maintaining secrecy around the project.
While some locals expressed skepticism about the nature of the content produced on the island, MrBeast continues to push creative boundaries and captivate audiences with his innovative approach to online entertainment. As an influential figure in the digital space, his endeavors extend beyond traditional content creation, showcasing a blend of entertainment, philanthropy, and strategic investments.
