Tom Holland, the actor behind Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently opened up about a particular MCU film that holds sentimental value for him and Zendaya, his co-star and real-life partner.
In an interview with Extra, Holland discussed his approach to watching his own work, expressing that he is comfortable critiquing himself and identifying areas where he could have pushed his performance further. Unlike some actors who avoid watching themselves, Holland embraces self-reflection on his projects.
However, there is one MCU movie that holds a special place in Holland and Zendaya’s hearts. The actor revealed that he and Zendaya occasionally revisit “Spider-Man: Homecoming” to reminisce about their experiences filming the 2017 superhero film. Reflecting on those moments, Holland shared, “Zendaya and I will, every now and then, watch [‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’] and reminisce about being 19 and making those movies again. I love those movies, and I love savoring those moments, so I try not to watch them as often as I would maybe like to because it’s so special.”
He emphasized the luxury and gift of being able to sit down and relive the youth-capturing moments. Holland acknowledged the significant impact the role of Spider-Man has had on his life, stating, “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without that job.”
Holland and Zendaya, who publicly confirmed their relationship in 2021, are expected to reprise their roles as Spider-Man and MJ in the upcoming “Spider-Man 4.” While details about the sequel are largely under wraps, it is anticipated to explore the aftermath of the Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again.” Although an official production start date hasn’t been announced, rumors suggest a potential late 2024 commencement.
The couple’s shared history within the MCU and their unique connection to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” contribute to the special bond they share, both on and off the screen.
