Inside the $400 million superyacht Beyoncé and Jay-Z just chartered

What does a weekend getaway look like to you? A little AirBnb, perhaps, in some country town an-hour-and-a-half’s drive away? Or maybe it’s renting out an apartment by the beach, only to spend so much of your time on the sand you might as well sleep on it (Quinn Mossbacher from White Lotus style).

Well, if you’re Beyoncé and Jay-Z, it seems like a break from the ‘quotidian’ is best spent on a $400 million superyacht. The holiday destination? Some patch of luxe-looking water, not far away from some nondescript Mediterranean coastline.

Not that they’d ever feel tempted to leave the yacht, anyways. The German megaboat, 450 feet long and 67 feet wide, is dubbed the Flying Fox, and costs approximately $4 million (US dollars, for that matter) to charter per week. Designed by Espen Øino and constructed by Lürssen in Germany, the Flying Fox can house up to 25 guests and 55 crew members—though for now, it’s only playing host to Bey, Jay-Z, their kids, and whoever’s taking all their studio-quality holiday photos.

Other features of the Flying Fox include a 12-metre pool, for when those aboard get bored of the ocean, a cinema and two helipads. Want to keep your guests entertained? There’s also a nightclub tucked away in the ship, and a two-floor spa when the nightclub gets too rowdy—including a cryo sauna, hammam, and group of professional therapists. And when you’re feeling hungry? The kitchen will have you covered, whatever cuisine you’re craving, home to a rotisserie, teppanyaki, and a pizza oven.
