Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, has built a successful empire over his more than two decades in the music industry.
But the 51-year-old revealed The Weekend Australian on Saturday that he is not pushing his three children to take over the reigns of his music and business empires.
The Brooklyn-born rapper and his singer Beyoncé are doting parents to nine-year-old Blue Ivy, and twins Sir and Rumi, who turn four in June.
The Grammy winner explained that their approach has always been to give their kids a ‘loving environment’ and support for what they want to achieve and who they want to be.
‘It’s easy for us, as human beings, to want our children to do certain things, but we have no idea. We’re just guides,’ JAY-Z added.
This comes after his eldest child – daughter Blue Ivy – won her first Grammy for Best Music Video as a featured artist on Brown Skin Girl by her mother Beyoncé.
Elsewhere, JAY-Z – whose hits include 99 Problems and Izzo (HOVA) – also shared his fitness goals while in lockdown amid the pandemic.
He revealed that he has been working out in the gym, saying: ‘just to be able to catch my children on the lawn. Those are my goals.’
JAY-Z and Beyoncé began dating in the early 2000s when she was still part of girl group Destiny’s Child.
They secretly married in 2008 and welcomed their first child – daughter Blue Ivy Carter – in 2012.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed twins in 2017 – a daughter named Rumi and a son named Sir.
