This might be the world’s tiniest caravan, but the 6ft 6ins long mobile home still boasts a bed, drinks cabinet and flatscreen television.
The £5,500 QTvan has been fitted with a full sized bed, a 19in TV, tea making facilities and even bookshelves. Yannick Read invented the petite home, which is small enough to be taken on the pavement while being towed by a mobility scooter at a top speed of 2mph.
The inventor, from Kingston, Surrey, decided to create the compact caravan for mobility scooter users and plans to put it into production, according to The Sun.
He said: ‘It gets some strange looks but I’m really pleased with it.’ It was launched last month and was named QTvan because it caters to three peculiarly British obsessions: queuing, tea and caravans.
The Environmental Transport Association (ETA) was happy to develop the trailer to highlight the estimated 220,000 people who use a mobility scooter without breakdown cover.
Yannick, who is an ETA spokesman, said: ‘An increasing number of people rely on mobility scooters, but if you develop a fault or run out of battery power and don’t have breakdown cover – or a tiny caravan in tow – your only options are to push something than weighs the equivalent of two men all the way home or call a relative with a car.’
The ETA warns that the QTvan is best-suited to local trips.
They said: ‘If it is used to venture further afield, extra time should be allowed. For example, a trip from London to a popular caravanning destination like the New Forest would take two days, while a journey to Whitby would take a week.’
The association also claims it is the world’s most environmentally-friendly caravan for a ‘staycation’ within Britain. And if the electricity used to charge the mobility scooter is bought from a green provider, the QTvan is entirely carbon neutral.
Extra options for the little caravan include Solar roof panels, an air horn and an extra-wide wing mirror for mobility scooter, satellite dish, gaming console, central heating, external luggage rack and bespoke paint.
