In a heartbreaking incident that has left a community in shock, a 10-month-old baby girl tragically lost her life after being forgotten in her grandmother’s car for nearly eight hours. The devastating event unfolded on August 13 outside a medical clinic in Madisonville, Kentucky, where Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker works.
Little Scottie Gwyn Crowell was discovered still strapped in her car seat after Dr. Fazenbaker, 61, failed to drop her off at daycare as planned. On that sweltering day, temperatures soared to 95 degrees, with the interior of the vehicle reaching a staggering 115 degrees, according to reports.
Dr. Fazenbaker had offered to take her granddaughter to daycare that morning. However, when Scottie’s father arrived to pick her up at 4 p.
m. , he was informed by the daycare staff that she had never been dropped off. The family quickly realized that Dr.
Fazenbaker had gone directly to work, inadvertently leaving the infant behind.
In a frantic rush, Dr. Fazenbaker and her colleagues hurried outside to rescue the child, but it was already too late. Madisonville Police Major Jason McKnight shared that despite their attempts at lifesaving measures, they were unable to revive the baby girl.
As authorities continue to investigate this tragic situation, no charges have yet been filed. Dr. Fazenbaker underwent testing for drugs and alcohol, but police do not expect any positive results.
Major McKnight noted that as the investigation progresses, there may be a possibility of charges being considered before the grand jury meets.
An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of Scottie’s death. Just a year ago, Dr. Fazenbaker relocated to Madisonville to be closer to her daughter, Sydni Crowell, who is also an OB-GYN in the area.
In a touching tribute, Emmy Fazenbaker, Scottie’s aunt and a sports reporter, expressed her love for the little girl on social media, stating, “We love you so much, our sweet baby girl.” Scottie was born on September 20, 2022, through in vitro fertilization, making her the second child in the family.
This tragic event has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding it, leaving many wondering how such a heartbreaking oversight could occur. What measures can be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future?
